Going to see the Blue Angeles today

Up visiting a old friend of Dad's in a small Navy town in the desert (this will identify it for some). Did some serious shooting yesterday and today going to see the Blue Angeles. Its going to rock.

Fun article about life in that unit http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/confessions-of-a-us-navy-blue-angel-1689568343

1. Seen em

It's a great show, enjoy.

BTW they almost always practice the day before at the same air field. Usually much smaller crowd, and virtually the same show.

2. They did. You could see them from all over the area.

Looking forward to the static displays and other things too.

4. I see them every year in El Centro, CA. It's the first show of the season as it's their winter home.

When I was with NavAir we were almost always on a detachment from NAS Whidbey Island this time of the year. In the week leading up to their opener, they fly two shows a day with the center-point (used to be a bus, I don't know what they use now) right in front of us on the flight line. It was AWESOME.

They're arrogant buttheads though, because of their selection process I guess. Hard to be a Blue Angel. One year we stayed in their barracks while they were gone. It caused a NavAir-wide incident when they came back and I can't say why (sworn to secrecy by the other participants).

The year they debuted with the Hornets, I was lucky enough to attend their coming-out party at MCAS Yuma that was attended by congresscritters, Generals, Admirals, and other movers/shakers. I was dating the daughter of a Commander attached to the hospital there and he didn't want to go so he gave us the invitation. I drank an Air Force General under the table before learning he was a General.

I remember back in the day when they created sonic booms almost the whole show. Same with the Thunderbirds. Saw them the first time way back when they were flying Phantoms.

9. Fascinating history here. Got a tour of the local sights from a long term local

They even once tried a space launch from there. All sorts of neat tech and inventions including missiles, glow sticks and urinal cakes.
