Is CERN real? Anyone know?

Is yes, what's the purpose? YouTube videos on CERN are very subjective and confusing.

1. yes, it is real.

It's an organization that does research in nuclear level and particle physics... most widely known for operating the huge particle accelerators / colliders in Europe

10. The occult part.. I think that's just a CT.

Maybe they're trying to create a dark matter weapon? A portal into space time?

Anyway, I didn't even think it was real. It sounds insane..Why would anyone want to.create antimatter?

6. What's scary is the speed at which they're accelerating and colliding the particles

Close to light speed.. that means the force of the collision between two particles accelerated at speed of light, is extremely high.

What are they trying to accomplish with it?

26. The combined speed of the particles is actually closer to twice the speed of light.

There are two accelerators operating in opposing directions. When the particles from each opposing beam path reach critical speed, they are then run through a section called the collider which is also where the collision detectors are located.

These scientists are fucking around with matter in such a way and with very little to no understanding of what may happen with speculation that they could actually open a hole in the space/time continuum, which may also open up infinite parallel universes that could start interactions that may never stop.

Part of what some fear is called the Mandela Effect.

Have a look.

This is how I learned about CERN, but the few online videos I tried to watch they were all Bible related and I thought the whole thing was just a hoax.

It's mind boggling to know that this is actually taking place as we speak. As you said, they have no idea what they're messing with. And it's over 22 countries participating in this thing too, apparently, so no way it's stopping it any time soon.

9. Accelerate particle and smash

them into each other or into some other medium, attempting to create smaller particles and observe their behaivor. Quantum physics.

You hear things like "the particle existed in 2 different places at the same time."

Also "the particle exited the chamber before it entered it"

19. Quantum is fun stuff

I'm not sure whether to buy the pilot wave theory - Afshar's experiment seems to point in that direction (a variation of the double-slit), but then again when a particle is observed, its whole past seems to be created to fit the result.

... but I kept reading more about it until it kind of just stopped being weird. The thing that was egging me on was wanting to know how entanglement worked and why so many say it's not possible to use it for communication.

Now we're smashing particles together to discover. . . .?

That is an extreme of simplicity but yes, it is real, and they really are having some super cool results.

32. Possibly. It's a French acronym

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (French: Organisation européenne pour la recherche nucléaire), known as CERN; French pronunciation; derived from the name "Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire"; see History), is a European research organization that operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. Established in 1954, the organization is based in a northwest suburb of Geneva on the Franco–Swiss border, (46°14′3″N 6°3′19″E) and has 22 member states.

34. OK, here's a little weird anecdote about the problems they had turning this thing on

It was actually speculated that quantum physics itself was conspiring against the powering up of this facility. Numerous delays and cost problems, along with defective and wrong parts kept pushing the date back. Near the end on the day it was supposed to be turned on, a massive short in the system occurred. The cause was found to be a bird had dropped a stolen piece of baguette on the primary power cables feeding the facility. It was so unlikely it was speculated the universe itself was acting to protect it's own integrity. This is not a joke.

35. My theory: the universe itself should have never been "created"

If it ever was created intentionally and thoughtfully.

There is so much pain in this life, nothing ever lasts forever ( unless you're a xtian believer) you always live to die, etc.

Life seems to have been created to always protect itself and procreate. If indeed we were created , which I don't if it's true yet or not

So the CERN encountering problems , I don't see it as particularly unexpected.

Even waking up to reality, and questioning things can disable your social credentials in a heartbeat.

and even occupies less of my time. Leave your little corner of the world a better place than you found it, and I figure you accomplished your purpose here.

Little babies children dying ...

What's the purpose?

Animals and ppl suffering all their lives in pain

It's all a joke

Maybe CERN ends it all .A good thing, now that I think about it.

38. One assumes there is some overall purpose to question that.

IMHO there is not. You and I and everyone else on the Board are lucky enough to have survived long enough to have created some purpose for ourselves, but life itself has no greater or overarching "purpose" other than to pass on it's genetic material.

Bottom line is life is what you make of it, and you can only make it for yourself. I cannot make or divine a purpose for others regardless of how fortunate or unfortunate they may be.

Children starve to death in 3rd world countries. It happens every day, usually for stupid or no good reasons. Tribal warfare. Corrupt or inefficient aid distribution. Here's a biggie: Medieval barbaric religious beliefs and practices. None of these has any real purpose other than as a testament to the petty stupidity of Man.

Then those who believe in a purpose are delusional.
