famous last words

Early Saturday (Feb. 11), a University of Southern Mississippi honors student, "highly intoxicated" and seemingly fixated on the swimming pool below, ran toward a closed 11th-floor window in a downtown New Orleans hotel room and rammed his right shoulder against the glass as a joke, saying "Let's go swimming," according to an incident report released Tuesday. Then he did it again.

"Oh s--t," Whaley said when the window broke, one of his fraternity brothers told police.

1. That's the problem with old windows

You might be able to get away with hitting them a few times without breaking them. But eventually they're gonna get ya. Learned that lesson the hard way when I was 13. Still have a scar all the way down the side of my right hand that tells the story.

5. Never said that, did I?

I was merely stating that you can punch a window, or even body slam it, and it just might hold up. But that doesn't guarantee it will do the same thing the next time.

At no time did I advocate doing either one. Believe me... decades later, I still regret my decision, every time the scar tissue in my hand cramps up.
