Indiana Pizzeria Closes Over Backlash From Owner’s Anti-Gay Remarks to Media

Memories Pizza, a takeout restaurant in Walkerton, Indiana, has closed its doors following outrage over remarks the shop owner made regarding same-sex marriage.

Early Wednesday, one of the shop's owners Crystal O'Connor said she would refuse to cater a same-sex wedding as the shop was a "Christian establishment." Phone calls and social media responses over the remarks have now forced the restaurant to shutter until temperatures cool.

Temporary or otherwise. The only way the title could be misleading is if it said 'permanently closed', it didn't.

8. Right, when 'Christians' boycott a business, it's 'freedom of speech',

When a Christian-owned business gets boycotted, it's "Persecution".

Is there ANY chance you guys will cut out the hypocrisy one day?

And why do you hate the free market?

One other thing: By mentioning Godwin's law, you're obviously suggesting that the boycott was 'Nazi-like'. Therefore you've fulfilled the requirements of Godwin's law: You've lost before you've begun.

What was done to the pizza idiots was more than just boycotting, it was direct offensive action.

43. They are acting like the ACT-UP a-holes of years past. Remember how they would break into Catholic

churches and desecrate the host? The gay rights movement renounced those tactics and gained political and social acceptance through positive portrayals and actions. The tactics employed against this pizzeria is reminiscent of the bad old days.

12. No, your post reply #5 100% was what happened to ACORN and disenfranchised 100s of thousands

of voters nationwide and later ACORN won the lawsuit but was permanently shut down.

Also, your post describes the mob riot at Miami Dade County in 2000 election, with Roger Stone, Republican operative leading and coordinating it from a van outside, ALL OF WHOM were outed as Republican operatives.
In fact, not one person banging on the windows and terrorizing the citizens doing the recount were unaffiliated actual protesters. ALL were operatives. Once shut down by those tactics, Bush stole the election.

Just as I feel private businesses have the right to chose the customers it wishes to serve, the Public has the right to vote with their wallet. It is stupid for a business to turn away revenue, and alienating your potential customer base is not a good way to Win Friends and Influence People.

6. Freedom of choice means no one has to patronize bigots...

BTW- most interesting to me is- Did they in this store refuse entry prior to this?

And also, is Pizza a new staple at Weddings nationwide?

Kinda have a feeling that it will be now.

I wonder- anyone know- on their menu- do they advertise having NY Style Pizza as so many Pizza places across America do (but only in NY can one get Real NY Pizza, it's the water or something).

Even in NJ, I can't get one good slice of pizza with zero toppings just hot, dripping, burn the top of the mouth as the grease drips down NY Pizza.
In NJ, gotta smother with toppings so it tastes edible.

thingy about weddings-
if the caterer takes the order and on wedding day don't deliver, that is a suable offense.
Because one can't just up and get a new caterer or photographer on the spot.

And how in the world would one know in advance who is getting married.

Do they stalk the internet looking for clues? That is creepy.

How does one know?

reigns in America. It's been a long journey since Stonewall, yet some want to go back to it.

I haven't given the grifters any money, have you? And why would I be bitter that they have to close their trashy restaurant? If their clientelle are the type who have pizza at their wedding reception, those are not the kind of people that I associate with.

The really funny thing is that you're fully aware that you're being taken for a ride but you "love it" because for some odd, convoluted reason, you think it's going to bother liberals that you're being scammed?

These hard-working business owners are victims of misguided malice and hate. I would think that kind and compassionate people (as liberals claim to be) would support human beings helping out other fellow human beings who have been victimized as badly as these people.

Or do you only care about compassion and tolerance when it's convenient for you?

And please explain how I am being "taken for a ride"? Would love to hear that one!

I think it's honorable for someone to help out a fellow man in their time of need, particularly when they've been treated as poorly as these hard-working business owners have been.

15. I agree 100%. Plus a word about taxes-

But windfall profits like in lotto winners normally spend it faster than it makes, forget to file taxes (like Al Capone did) and end up broke and in trouble with the IRS.

and the IRS needs to be sure that these funds are properly looked into and taxed. They are NOT tax free.
One would think like with bitcoins, that these funds need to be looked at by the IRS and if there are gaps in the current laws, loopholes need to be closed and all.

I know bands that use kickstarter have to declare all money comes in as if the fans that gave were a record company giving them the money.
Anything less is tax evasion.

With the outrageous amount of money laundering, one cannot funnel funds tax free, because that means I,
a taxpayer, end up having to pay their share. And thanks, but no thanks, why should I pay someone who
isn't paying constitutionally mandated taxes?

These hard-working business people will likely take the money and re-invest it. They've already proven they have more work ethic than most people, particularly the couch-riding-welfare-eaters.

I find it amazing that the liberals are OK with destroying this business when they haven't refused service to ONE person. The irony is so thick, I can barely see.

Seems their choice to hog the TV spotlight. Many have made that error.
Me, I don't want to be a 15 minutes of fame person.

I think the Witchhunt on ACORN was far, far, far, far more important as that affected hundreds of thousands of people from being able to use their constitutional rights to vote.

Anyone that says that they "chose" to be heterosexual or homosexual is acknowledging that their level of physical attraction to each sex is fairly equal.....hence, they make a choice.

Most of us aren't in that boat. I'm heterosexual, and it's not by choice. I could pretend to be gay. I could tell people that I find men to be sexy, and women to be unappealing, but it would be a lie. I would still be just as physically attracted to women as I ever was.

Not a fan of their stance, but it seems a little trollish; as I've never heard of pizza for a wedding reception. I have for rehearsal though.

But I'm not a fan of the death threats either. That makes me want them to be defiant and stay open with employees openly armed; daring any person making the threats to try it and see what happens.
