Indianapolis police kill 15-year-old carjacking suspect

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis police fatally shot a "troubled" 15-year-old boy who evaded officers at a traffic stop and accelerated toward them in a car that matched the description of one that had been reported carjacked, the city's assistant police chief said Monday.

Three officers opened fire Sunday night on the carjacking suspect, identified by the local coroner's office as Andre Green, because they felt threatened as he accelerated the car toward them, said Assistant Police Chief Lloyd Crowe.

"We feel that they were in danger," he said, adding that the driver was using the car as "his weapon of choice at that moment."

Crowe said that after the shooting, the driver exited the car and collapsed. A handgun was found near him, he said. Asked whether the carjacking suspect had aimed the gun at the officers, Crowe said investigators did not know because they were still interviewing the three officers.

1. A car is a very deadly weapon. If he was trying to run over them they had every right and reason

to utilize what ever force necessary to stop him. In the real world about all they could do was shoot the driver. You not going kill the car to stop the momentum of the car with a handgun.

6. Disclaimer...

*I agree with you.*

However (and unfortunately) due to public pressure because of a case out of LA where several "prominent" rap "artists" started making noise many departments have made a policy that officers cannot shoot at a vehicle.

The case in LA was almost the same as this one and the city council forced the new policy on them. It states something similar to, "An officer cannot use deadly force on a moving vehicle unless that vehicle is presenting deadly force OTHER than the vehicle itself."

My opinion? You cannot steer a bullet.

2. A Kid I went to HS with stole a car tried to ram a cop in Suffolk country and took a bullet to

the thumb of his hand on the wheel. (We called him nubs after that) IIRC he got 3 years as he was 15. He's 50 now and been in and out of Prison for over half his life most for GTA and Drug dealing, probation violations, etc. A wasted life.....

3. The shooting was justified.

The kid stole a car and tried to run over the cops. He died.
Sometimes people deserve their fate...this is one of those times.

4. Sad story, I feel for the kid's family. Glad the officers weren't harmed. Good work officers
