UPDATE: Officer Torres indicted for 2nd Degree murder.

Yesterday, I posted this. http://www.discussionist.com/1014170071

It talked about after two years, officer Torres was finally fired for shooting John Geer, the unarmed man who was standing in the doorway with his hands up. Today, Torres is in jail, being held without bond. The indictment from the Grand Jury was for 2nd Degree Murder. Torres turned himself in last night after the bench warrant was issued in response to the indictment.

The indictment of Adam D. Torres in the killing of 46-year-old John Geer, who had a holstered gun at his feet when he was shot, marks the first time in the 75-year history of the Fairfax County Police Department that an officer has faced criminal prosecution in connection with an on-duty shooting.

I've talked before about the changing tide. I've talked about how the police are going to be held accountable, and they can take the lead in the effort of reform, or they can be run over by those reforms. Torres was run over. The rest of the police in the department are going to suffer as well. They're going to have stricter rules, and then even more strict regulations put in place.

Torres murdered an unarmed man. Now the Grand Jury has spoken. Next up, the Jury of his peers. Unless he can arrange a plea bargain, Torres is going to find himself in prison for a crime, and an incident that is only partially his fault. The main fault belongs to the culture of the cop. The idea that deadly force is the best answer, the first answer, and the only answer to a vast majority of the situations.

Ten years ago, there would have been a lawsuit. Ten years ago, Torres would have gotten a commendation. Not now. Now, all he gets is a booking number, and held without bond while he awaits arraignment. The times, they are a changing.

Now the authoritarians are going to say that this will handicap the police, and put the public at greater risk. It's a specious argument bereft of any logic or truth. The facts are this. The police are not supposed to shoot unarmed people who present no threat to anyone.

1. Stricter rules and regulations should be viewed by righteous..

Law enforcement officers as a benefit, not a burden ....
For the "THPTers" not so much..!!

4. BLM had absolutely nothing to do with this indictment.

And I wouldn't call that fiasco in Seattle peaceful.

6. Actually, #blacklivesmatter changed the system. Protests are not meant to be comfortable

and the protests have nothing to do with Bernie.
The world does not revolve around Bernie who did quite uncomfortable things in the 1960s,
and who has used the word

REVOLUTION more than one time.

The revolution was won in 2008 in Nov. 2008. It's ours to keep if we keep it.

8. All this word salad of yours is starting

to get embarrassing for those of us who want to have an intelligent conversation on this subject. I see that you managed to get in the usual slams at Sanders in this totally unrelated crap that you're posting. Didn't you forget your usual "I like Bernie but.." passive/aggressive nonsense?

Screw this BLM crap. Do you think they are the only citizens in this country with serious problems? That bullshit about not being able to say that ALL lives matters and the classless attack by those two idiots in Seattle have turned a good chunk of the people in this country against the movement and negated any good they might ever have been able to able to accomplish. What about Hispanic lives? We already have heard white lives don't count.

I am looking at this from the perspective of a white kid who, because WE were dirt poor and didn't have a pot to piss in, ACTUALLY lived in the housing projects. I know from experience what that is like. To this fucking day I say God Bless the Salvation Army. Without them we would have never have had a Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas. Who cared that most of the presents were used? We were damn happy. So you see, extreme poverty isn't limited to the black segment of our society. THAT IS WHY ALL LIVES FUCKING MATTER

Guess who it was who hasseled, threatened, and chased us home from school. Guess who threatened and picked on my brother John so much that we found out he wasn't even leaving the house in the morning but went and hid in the storage closet all day. He quit school at 13. He would not go until even worse tragedy happened and our family was totally broken up and he went to Boys Town. I lived in the fucking projects. I KNOW that many blacks are every bit racists as your average Klanner. Don't you ever think they aren't.

I'm not saying black people don't have some serious problems and that they don't need help, they most certainly do. But geniuses that that some are (or think they are), they attack the party that understands this. If BLM thinks that they can pitch fits and physical assault old men and gain supporters at the same time then they are fools. And so are you.

Hard to disagree with that statement. But I'm sure someone will be along shortly to do just that, and to blame John Geer for being on the wrong end of the gun. After all - if he'd have just put his hands up faster or higher or something like that ...

5. I know - I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet.

For some, police can do no wrong.
