Citi: World economy trapped in 'death spiral'

The global economy is trapped in a "death spiral" that could lead to further weakness in oil prices, recession and a serious equity bear market, Citi (C) strategists have warned.

Some analysts — including those at Citi — have turned bearish on the world economy this year, following an equity rout in January and weaker economic data out of China and the U.S.

"The world appears to be trapped in a circular reference death spiral," Citi strategists led by Jonathan Stubbs said in a report on Thursday.

"Stronger U.S. dollar, weaker oil/commodity prices, weaker world trade/petrodollar liquidity, weaker EM (and global growth)... and repeat. Ad infinitum, this would lead to Oilmageddon, a 'significant and synchronized' global recession and a proper modern-day equity bear market."

Just 151,000 new jobs were created in January in the U.S., in the latest sign that the world's biggest economy is slowing. Economists are concerned about an industrial or manufacturing recession in the country, following some warnings from companies in earnings seasons and recent weak manufacturing activity and durable goods orders data.

However, some analysts say markets are overegging the prospect of a global slump.

"Many markets are now pricing in a significant probability of recession and when we talk about recession, we're talking particularly about a U.S. recession. Do you think that is likely or not? To me, the odds are too high; the market is pricing too high a probability," Myles Bradshaw, the head of global aggregate fixed income at Amundi, told CNBC this week

Obama may crow- but those in the financial trenches see something far more ominous brewing..

8. Well, if god is in control than this is his doing - so blame him, not Obama

I mean...isn't god more powerful than the US, Obama, etc?

So if things aren't going well and the world is under god's control then shouldn't you be thanking god for how things are?

19. Well I notice you attack over 1 billion people.

YOu do not want serious dialogue- you want to mock and cajole and show how so smart you are by mocking God and his people.

god is not in control, but, Yes God is in control- He established the laws for us to obey and allows a measure of liberty to mankind to act within the bounds He set. And yes that also includes allowing man to act cruelly and brutally against His fellow man. So in one sense He is the first cause for all things, for if He chose to stop it- It would be stopped.

But as to your judging HIm, you do so out of ignorance and not knowledge. You are like the person who has their nose outside of a prosperouscandy maker' s shop and complains the candy maker is doing it all wrong, when you never made a piece of candy in your life

20. I attack over a billion? How about you and others when you do the same with Islam?

Actually, I probably attack 2 billion since I don't buy into either of those religions.

He established the laws for us to obey and allows a measure of liberty to mankind to act within the bounds He set. And yes that also includes allowing man to act cruelly and brutally against His fellow man. So in one sense He is the first cause for all things, for if He chose to stop it- It would be stopped.

Well if god won't enforce his laws himself why should others do so for him? From gay marriage to other things let god handle his own will and quit trying to apply his will, as you interpret it, for him.

Oh, I know, fundies already believe god punishes with storms, earthquakes, diseases etc - but I guess they also must think he has bad aim since he hits people in the path of those.

So, bad aim, can't do his own work enforcing his laws, he let's people get away with murder and such...I dunno, he sure sounds confusing to me.

21. Paul simon wrote a title for a song talking about you!!!!

"Still Crazy after all these years"!!!

Oh he enforces His laws all right Read Psalm 73

Also 2 Peter 3:

1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance

Oh, I know, fundies already believe god punishes with storms, earthquakes, diseases etc - but I guess they also must think he has bad aim since he hits people in the path of thos

Yes sometimes He does and over- anxious believers want to attribute every freakish storm to the wrath of God! I reserve my judgment, just as I reserved my judgment concerning possible events of last September that were predicted!
