Hillary Clinton and Her Staff May Have Compromised Counterterror Ops with ‘Sloppy’ Communications

Exclusive: Hillary Clinton and Her Staff May Have Compromised Counterterror Ops with ‘Sloppy’ Communications
By Jeff Stein On 5/25/16 at 10:11 PM

A retired senior State Department military advisor claims that Hillary Clinton’s “sloppy communications with her senior staff” when she was secretary of state may have compromised at least two counterterror operations.

Bill Johnson, who was the State Department’s political adviser to the special operations section of the U.S. Pacific Command, or PACOM, in 2010 and 2011, says secret plans to eliminate the leader of a Filipino Islamist separatist group as well as intercept Chinese-made weapons components being smuggled into Iraq, were repeatedly foiled.

Johnson says he and his team eliminated the possibility of other security leaks before settling on the unprotected telephone calls of the secretary of state and her aides as the likely source.

“I had several missions that went inexplicably wrong, with the targets one step ahead of us,” Johnson tells Newsweek in an exclusive interview.

His target in the Philippines was Umbra Jumdail, also known as Dr. Abu, the founder of the Muslim militant group Abu Sayyaf, which the State Department officially designated a terrorist organization in 1997. U.S. advisers were assisting Filipino military units.

“We had good intel, we knew where he was,” says Johnson, who worked in U.S. Air Force special operations with Army Green Beret and Navy SEAL units for more than 25 years before joining the State Department in 1999. “He would be gone three hours before, sometimes as little as a half hour before” the counterterror teams moved in. “We knew he was getting tipped off somehow, we just didn’t know why.”

They began to investigate. The U.S. team advising the Filipino forces swapped out one local counterterror unit it was working with for another in an effort to locate the source of the leaks, Johnson says. But Dr. Abu still managed to elude them. The reason, he believes: unsecure chatter between Washington and the American embassy in Manila.

“Anyone can just sit outside the embassy and listen,” with off-the-shelf eavesdropping devices, he says. “We suspected the leaks somewhere at State at the time.”

As a dramatic solution, the Special Operations Command stopped giving advance warning to senior State Department officials about their raids, Johnson says. Whatever the cause, the leaks stopped. In February 2012, Dr. Abu and two other senior militants were eventually killed in what was described as “a U.S.-backed airstrike.”

Around the same time, a U.S. special operations unit was tracking agents from the United Arab Emirates, who were suspected of buying advanced remote-control bomb devices from China to use against U.S. troops in Iraq. Their main smuggling route led through Thailand. U.S. counterterrorism agents set a trap for them in Bangkok, Johnson says, but “word of it leaked.” He suspected the “sloppy” communication habits of Clinton and senior State Department staff were to blame, but again, he admits, “I had no proof.”

Johnson, who voted for Barack Obama in 2008, and now supports Bernie Sanders, says he had previously witnessed the lax communications habits of Clinton and her aides. In January 2010, Clinton was in Honolulu to give a speech on the administration’s “pivot” to Asia when news of the Haiti earthquake broke. She retreated to the secure communications facility in the basement of Pacific Command headquarters to make calls to various military officials and humanitarian groups to help organize a response to the catastrophe. But she also “needed to talk to her senior staff on Mahogany Row,” her seventh floor executive suite back in Washington, Johnson recalls.

The only problem: she did not readily have any secure telephone numbers or email addresses for her staff members because they were all using personal servers and phones. Security had prevented her travelling aides from bringing their personal cell phones into PACOM headquarters. They appealed to Johnson for an exception, but he refused, citing alarms and lockdowns that would be automatically triggered by any attempt to bring unauthorized signal-emitting units into the building.

Clinton came up with a work-around, Johnson says. “She had her aides go out, retrieve their phones and call the seventh floor from outside”—on open, unsecure lines, he says.

It's over Hillary. Get out of Bernie's way and accept your prison sentence.

1. Drip, drip, drip. This doesn't look good for Hillary. ...

What bothered me most about the IG report today was the information that Hillary and her aides refused to cooperate with the probe. That simply smells bad. Real bad! (Especially since the inspector general, Steve Linick, was appointed by President Obama.)

2. Hillary is responsible for the biggest breach of national security in the history of our nation.

I would say this is unbelievable but I am very sure it is all true.

Security measures are in place for a reason, a good reason. Hillary ignored all of them and fostered a continuing loss of classified data and probably got good people killed.

As soon as they knew we were coming for them they knew that they had security leaks and took measures to stop those leaks. That is how this all works.

4. What amazes me is the complete disregard or concern in her followers.

EVERY single American should be concerned with these allegations, regardless of political affiliation or whther she is their "pet" candidate.

National security doesnt have a political party and ignoring it hurts all Americans regardless of what ideals or political leanings.

Everyone should want complete transparency and the truth. Hillary followers should want complete transparency to prove she did noting out of the ordinary, nothing wrong, and that nothing was compromised as a result of her actions. If all that comes out, they get a huge "F YOU" to the world.

If any or even a tiny fraction of the allegations/findings are true, she should burn. Period. Even if you love her.

If a republican candidate did the exact same thing Hillary has now been proven to have done, I would be dumping him like a rotten sandwich in the next available trashbin of history and moving on to someone else.

Hell, I am a mid level manager at a company and if a candidate came in for an entry level job in my team and treated sensitive information the way she did, they wouldnt even be getting an interview....yet some want her finger on the red button? Serious WTF moment here....so many people with their heads shoved so far up their political party worshiping asses that they are ignoring the bigger picture.

5. Serious leak by Hillary. reminds me of the Attache in Cairo circa 1940-42

Bonner Fellers COL. USA kept cabling the War & State Departments about British “strengths, positions, losses, reinforcements, supply, situation, plans, morale etc” were in the hands of German and Italian military

All his cables were being intercepted by Germany via Italy's Intelligence Agency sneaking into the Rome Embassy. Fellers had been ordered to use the State Departments code instead of the Military code Field Marshall Rommel nicknamed Fellers die gute Quelle (the good source, the good fellow).

His cable, No. 11119 dated June 11, was intercepted-
NIGHTS OF JUNE 12TH JUNE 13TH BRITISH SABOTAGE UNITS PLAN SIMULTANEOUS STICKER BOMB ATTACKS AGAINST AIRCRAFT ON 9 AXIS AIRDROMES. PLANS TO REACH OBJECTIVES BY PARACHUTES AND LONG RANGE DESERT PATROL.

When the SAS & LRDG commandos attacked, the Axis forces were already waiting for them. Many of the commandos were killed.

Bleat bleat little sheep.

{inset memes, emoticons, flags here}

Honest question....would you be willing to openly bet real life money on the future of her campaign? I'm sure we could arrange a bet where the loser is forced to donate cash to the other party's campaign fund.

Would you put your money where your mouth is if given the chance?

11. Talk is cheap

Lets put your money where your mouth is. Name an amount, prove you have it and we'll escrow this badboy and set it up. Not hard, many avenues to do this fairly, cleanly and openly.

If youre such a high roller that you refuse bets below a certain amount, I have no doubt the money will be secured. Name the amount, prove you have it. I'll match, we deposit into escrow with public terms and third party distributes based on those terms.

I'm sure if youre super rich you are versed in such things so this wont be too much of a stretch for you to understand.

17. So its not that you think youre too rich like before...now you back off because....why?

Your post stinks....of dishonesty.

You proclaimed I couldnt afford to bet with you. I disagree.

I'm happy to let you actually put some weight on your predictions.

You are wholly unwilling to stand by your convictions using your hard earned money.

What does someone being anonymous have to do with whether you are willing to put money on the adamant factual claims you are making as nauesum on an anonymous message board?

If the money were in escrow, why would it matter who you won it from or who you lost it to?

I have no interest in coming to California to chat with you...I try to avoid that liberal shithole like the plague. I'm happy to meet with you at a bikers bar up here in NH of you want.

TLR You're usually just a sheep but it seems youre morphing into a chicken. Farm animal theme consistent with liberal ideology.

No one is puffing and huffing about how rich they are and how others couldnt afford to bet with them except you.

It seems you are the one who cares.

Yet you are the only one so far unwilling to pony up....something very odd for someone who is clearly as rich, prosperous and full of claims about how sure they are about certain things.

14. Hubris

Hubris (/ˈhjuːbrɪs/, also hybris, from ancient Greek ὕβρις) describes a personality quality of extreme or foolish pride or dangerous over-confidence. In its ancient Greek context, it typically describes behavior that defies the norms of behavior or challenges the gods, and which in turn brings about the downfall, or nemesis, of the perpetrator of hubris.

In its modern usage, hubris denotes overconfident pride and arrogance. Hubris is often associated with a lack of humility. Sometimes a person's hubris is also associated with a lack of knowledge. The accusation of hubris often implies that suffering or punishment will follow, similar to the occasional pairing of hubris and nemesis in Greek mythology. The proverb "pride goeth (goes) before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall" (from the biblical Book of Proverbs, 16:18) is thought to sum up the modern use of hubris. Hubris is also referred to as "pride that blinds," as it often causes a committer of hubris to act in foolish ways that belie common sense. In other words, the modern definition may be thought of as, "that pride that goes just before the fall."

Did the terrorist network operating within Libya intercept her conversations with that twit Sidney Blumenthal ?

The location of the compound where Stevens and 3 others were killed could have been disclosed thru intercepted communication between the 2 of them.
