Hillary's statement. I'll put it in "News" but it's really not...

I join Americans in praying for the victims of the attack in Orlando, their families and the first responders who did everything they could to save lives.

This was an act of terror. Law enforcement and intelligence agencies are hard at work, and we will learn more in the hours and days ahead. For now, we can say for certain that we need to redouble our efforts to defend our country from threats at home and abroad. That means defeating international terror groups, working with allies and partners to go after them wherever they are, countering their attempts to recruit people here and everywhere, and hardening our defenses at home. It also means refusing to be intimidated and staying true to our values.

This was also an act of hate. The gunman attacked an LGBT nightclub during Pride Month. To the LGBT community: please know that you have millions of allies across our country. I am one of them. We will keep fighting for your right to live freely, openly and without fear. Hate has absolutely no place in America.

Finally, we need to keep guns like the ones used last night out of the hands of terrorists or other violent criminals. This is the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States and it reminds us once more that weapons of war have no place on our streets. This is a time to stand together and resolve to do everything we can to defend our communities and country.

2. That statement was perfect

First paragraph talking about terrorists, including international ones.

Second paragraph talking about the killer's homophobia, which was certainly a component here.

Third paragraph talking about keeping guns away from terrorists and other violent criminals. Even 2nd-Amendment warriors on the right can agree with keeping guns away from terrorists and violent criminals, right?

4. Hillary is under numerous FBI criminal investigations and her actions have

directly lead to the deaths of dozens, if not hundreds and thousands of people.

Hillary and everyone around her should be disarmed.

Good try but no cigar, some black kid stole them on his way to meet a cop....

6. Hillary needs to get out of the presidential race

Besides being the subject of an FBI criminal investigation, she wants to disregard the second amendment to the constitution and import hundreds of thousands more terrorists, just like this guy and his family.

I also agree with Ben Franklin- an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

12. The fact that you view the quote in a different manner than I do doesn't surprise me. ...

The wonderful thing about this nation is that we can hold extremely different views and both of us can feel free to express them.

14. the fact that you choose not to pay attention to the actual words

(even if Franklin never spoke them) seems to be the problem.

“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

You may think that someone else's life is little and temporary. They may not agree.

16. If we do away with our Bill of Rights in order to stop terrorists we will discover ...

that they will still be able to launch attacks in our nation. Unfortunately we will have lost our freedoms and will be always under the watchful eye of Big Brother.

If so, the terrorists will have won. They hate us because of our freedom. We threaten their way of life as many people in their nations wish the freedoms we enjoy.

22. Did you ever hear of NSA? (No Such Agency)?

On June 11, 2013, the ACLU filed a lawsuit challenging the legality of the National Security Agency’s mass collection of Americans’ phone records. The complaint argues that the dragnet violates the right to privacy protected by the Fourth Amendment as well as the freedoms of speech and association protected by the First Amendment. The complaint also charges that the program exceeds the authority that Congress provided in Section 215 of the Patriot Act. In May 2015, the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that the call-records program violates Section 215 of the Patriot Act. Weeks later, on June 1, 2015, Section 215 briefly expired for the first time since the passage of the Patriot Act in 2001. The next day, Congress passed the USA Freedom Act, which amended Section 215 to prohibit the bulk collection of Americans’ call records.

Mass collection of phone records could conceivably stop some terrorist attacks The problem with such tactics is that the government can use these records to destroy anybody that dosn't keep his mouth shut and instead chooses to voice his disapproval of government policies. For example such information could be used to damage the leadership of organizations such as the ACLU.

The Fourth Amendment and the First are there for good reason. The government would love to nibble at those rights for its own purpose and its power. Eventually the words will still exist on paper but will simply be ignored by Big Brother. Even if we end up a little safer from terrorists we have to trade off some of our most important freedoms.

Of course you can always trust your government as it has your best interests at heart.

24. it ain't my government ...

and it always seems to me that the solution to a government one does not trust is to elect a government one does trust.

Easier said than done, no question. It just seems to me that USAmericans don't even try. But then, the real problem is more likely not the government, but the corporate interests that are, one might say, too big to beat.

Anyway, it's always fun to imagine what a government could do, but it's generally more helpful to consider what it is actually doing and is actually likely to do.

If a government set about damaging the leadership of the ACLU (for which I hold no brief, just to be clear), then you have elected the wrong government, surely.

25. In my nation it does seem that many of those we send to DC do not represent the people who ...

elected them. They have sold out to the big donors, the pharmaceutical industry and the military industrial complex.

Many people here are beginning to realize that and how it explains how the rich continue getting richer, the poor poorer and the middle class keeps going extinct.

Perhaps one day we will throw all the bums out and start over with a new bunch. But I doubt it.
