Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz to STEP DOWN after his anti-Trump vow to hire 10,000 refugees backfired, provoked a boycott by Donald supporters and hit sales

Howard Schultz will be replaced as Starbucks CEO by Kevin Johnson on April 2
The 63-year-old will remain at the company as executive chairman
He will focus on innovation and building up Starbucks' high-end coffee shops

3. Wasn't this "stepping down" announced last December?

A couple months before the vow to hire 10,000 refugees...

4. It was announced early December, but in the previous September, THIS was in the news...

Despite his high status in the business world, Schultz has not been discreet with his political views and in September he publicly endorsed Hillary Clinton.

Speaking to ABC News' Chief Business Correspondent Rebecca Jarvis that month, the CEO said: "I do hope that Hilary Clinton becomes president of the United States."

---------

Perhaps his very publicly-stated choice had the initial effect of shunting him sideways into a less public position, and then came the 10k refugee nonsense...

5. The thread title implies that his vow to hire refugees is the reason he will no longer be CEO.

Unless time travel is involved somehow, that seems unlikely.

We could speculate all day about the true reason he is moving to the Executive Chairman position from his current CEO slot, but I don't think a credible case can be made that it is because of declining sales caused by something he said almost two months after the change was announced.

Hell, maybe we can pretend this career change started with the Great Christmas Cup Controversy of 2015:

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump weighed in on the day's controversy on Monday, floating the prospect of boycotting Starbucks after the coffee giant announced it would abandon its Christmas-themed cups.

"I have one of the most successful Starbucks, in Trump Tower. Maybe we should boycott Starbucks? I don't know. Seriously, I don't care. That's the end of that lease, but who cares?" Trump told a crowd in Springfield, Illinois, on Monday. "If I become president, we're all going to be saying Merry Christmas again, that I can tell you. That I can tell you."

I don't care much either. I just replied because the OP seemed at odds with the facts.

9. "the 10k refugee nonsense"

You mean the proposal to hire 10,000 refugees over 5 years in the 75 countries around the world where Starbucks does business.

How's your arithmetic?

One can only hope that it is on a higher plane than the ethics of those who misrepresent that policy proposal.

6. Dems looking to run an outspoken billionaire with no

Political experience just 4 years after losing to one? I don't believe it.

Also, as mentioned above, the title is bs in its attempt to link his stepping down with the refugee comment. When a news story starts out with a title like this, you can usually be sure the rest of it is of similar "quality".

7. Trump supporters need to grow up....

I bet the same people think it was wrong to boycott Chick-fil-A.

10. An interesting spin on the topic.

Probably should not be surprised by the Daily Mail.
