Venezuelans get socialism good and hard, American left silent

Venezuela’s opposition renewed nationwide protests on Thursday to pressure the government of President Nicolás Maduro to hold elections and improve a collapsing economy, a day after three people were killed in similar demonstrations.

How can this be? That idiot Sean Penn said socialism was great and that we should model Venezuela. Where is that damned fool at now?

The opposition counters that Maduro, deeply unpopular as Venezuelans grapple with triple-digit inflation and shortages of food and basic consumer goods, is seeking to stay in power indefinitely by barring opposition leaders from office and quashing independent state institutions.

Ah, yes the fruits of socialism. Shortages and inflation. This is what our resident leftists want here.

Two students and a national guard sergeant were killed in Wednesday’s demonstrations, bringing the death toll in demonstrations this month to eight. The rights group Penal Forum said more than 500 people were arrested in relation to Wednesday’s protest and 334 remained in detention.

This must be the social democracy the left yammers on about.

But the sharp deterioration of the economy, which has put many foods and medicines out of the reach of the average citizen, and a more organized and united opposition coalition have injected fresh energy into the current protests.

This is what happens with socialism every damned time, and there are still socialists who don't believe this is always the outcome.

Likely NOT in Venezuela...

3. Ban civilian ownership of firearms, then deputize 400,000 government supporters. Brilliant.

"If everyone were like me, we wouldn't have a gun problem."

With any luck, what's going on in Venezuela will convince the sane world that gun-grabbers want to control every aspect of life and with a ban on civilian ownership of firearms they're but a few steps away from being able to do exactly that.

4. Sweden called and said you have no idea what you are talking about.

Typical Righty, blame the tool and not the user. Unless it is a gun, then all the users fault. It is comical to watch you pretend socialism is to blame for the collapse, sad really.

You pay taxes and get a SS check you then LOVE socialism! I could go on, but won't waste my time with people that put the blame in the wrong place and have a childlike fear of words.

5. So put the blame in the correct place then. Please. Educate us.

And how many hammers have you blamed for smashed fingers?

8. Two problems....

1. Sweden from an economic point is more capitalist than the US at current. They also don't have a large and indolent lazy class with no useful skills or the willingness to acquire them.

2. I pay for Social Security because I am forced to do so. I would rather manage my own affairs rather than pay an extra tax to the government. I won't ever see a dime of SS and I know it.

10. The choice between paying taxes and paying into SS is jail.

You fail.

13. Oh, and one other thing...

Venezuela may have had problems before Hugo and the Funshine gang took over, but at least they were on okay footing. Even if Chavez were still alive they system would still be falling apart and government would still be handing out rifles to loyalists. Socialism does not work. How many examples of total failure do you have to see before you can admit that?

9. No, it can't.

The people living in tent cities are far from "the average citizen".

7. Things are moving right along

Recently the "socialists" took control of a GM plant there.

It reminds me of an old customer of my father. His name was Rafael and he owned an auto parts store called Uptown Auto Parts in New Orleans. Rafael was the owner of a Chevrolet dealership in Cuba when Castro came to power there. One day, armed soldiers walked into his place of business and told him "we want the keys to your safe."

Stripped of his business and all monetary possessions, including his house, Rafael escaped to New Orleans with nothing but the clothes on his back. Eventually, he started a business in New Orleans and was able to make a decent living. Is it any wonder the CIA was able to organize exiled Cubans in an attempt to retake Cuba? Is it any wonder they hated JFK for fucking up their chance of success by leaving them high and dry by calling off the air support?

11. I have often pointed out that Venezuela is doing socialism wrong. The leaders of that country have

screwed up the economy causing shortages and inflation. You don't see that in such democratic socialist countries as Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.

12. There is only one way that socialism works.

That is to crush the souls and the spirit of the people forced to live under the glorious system, because they, the benevolent assholes in charge, damn sure won't allow you to leave it, after all you owe the country for your education, if nothing else.

As far as Denmark, it's questionable whether it works, however, small relatively homogenous nation with a northern European work ethic? Yeah, it may work a little longer than elsewhere. Sweden? See Denmark. Norway? See north sea oil, because what they have won't work without that.

You envision what you think Denmark, Norway, and Sweden to be, but don't really know, as what you think you could implement here. What you would end up with is Venezuela writ large with a scary military.
