On the "Mo" back in '65, when she was at the shipyard in Bremerton Wa...And thankfully, we're BOTH still alive to talk about it..!!

She was berthed directly across the pier from the dry dock my ship was in for overhaul, and we used to sneak aboard her during lunch breaks, and have a few beers on the other side of her superstructure, out of sight of prying "SP" eyes..
The plaque on her foredeck, showing where the surrender took place was a very awe inspiring sight to behold..

4. Something about British protocol states that the news has to announced officially by the BBC @ 8am.

Kinda strange...but it`s the Brits and they love formalities.

17. I wonder if someone misinterpreted the term "retired" and thought their source

was trying to say he died in a very polite way.

18. It was posted with the available info last night....yes, I willl amend.

It looks like he may have had a stroke or a heart attack, given the abrupt nature of the Buckingham Palace meeting....he still may be on the brink.

Speculation.
