American Woman and Family Held for 5 Years in Afghanistan Freed From Taliban Militants

By ADAM GOLDMANOCT. 12, 2017

WASHINGTON — An American woman and her Canadian husband who were held hostage by militants in Afghanistan for five years have been freed along with their young children, President Trump said on Thursday, ending a case that has long frustrated diplomats and F.B.I. agents trying to secure their release.

Pakistan’s military said that “through an intelligence-based operation,” it took custody of the hostages from the Haqqani network, the Taliban faction that had seized Caitlan Coleman, 31, and her husband, Josh Boyle, 34, in 2012. The Pakistani military pledged to repatriate them, and American intelligence agencies were tracking the hostages as they crossed into the rugged tribal areas of northwest Pakistan.

The Trump administration and the Pakistani government worked together to free them, Mr. Trump said. It was not clear what, if any, concessions were made to the Haqqani network to ensure the family’s release.

“This is a positive moment for our country’s relationship with Pakistan,” Mr. Trump said in a statement. “The Pakistani government’s cooperation is a sign that it is honoring America’s wishes for it to do more to provide security in the region. We hope to see this type of cooperation and teamwork in helping secure the release of remaining hostages and in our future joint counterterrorism operations.”

1. You know, it's things like this that make me long for a Lord Palmerston,

who back in 1850 uttered the famous "civis britannicus sum" when a fellow British subject had been abused by a Greek mob, and the Royal Navy was sent there to cow the Greeks into apology and submission.

We need this sort of leadership again, where crooks and bandits and outlaws and terrorists are so intimidated they won't touch another American again.

4. Now that would be some real CHANGE from the appeasement stance our govt has followed for last...

...few decades which has been overwhelmingly proven to not work. When dealing with a 2 yr old, the parent doesn't appease the child...else when that child grows up the parent will find them out there running around wearing black masks beating people with bicycle locks.

7. All three of their children were born while they were being held.

Not exactly an optimal place for family planning I guess.

3. Pakistan still has the Awan brothers-Congressional spy scandal hanging over their heads

This might be a " peace offering " to keep Trump from going after them.

5. And some members of that govt were hiding bin laden there for years...

...still believe it's time for the US to leave the middle east and let the knuckle draggers fight it out amongst themselves.
