MAGA! WINNING! National Gun-Carry Reciprocity Bill Passes the House

National Gun-Carry Reciprocity Bill Passes the House

A national gun-carry reciprocity bill passed the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

The Concealed Carry National Reciprocity Act of 2017 made it through the house vote with 231 yes votes, 198 no votes, and 5 congressmen not voting. An overwhelming number of Republicans, 225, voted for the bill while 14 Republicans voted no and one did not vote. Most Democrats, 184, voted against the bill while six Democrats voted yes and three did not vote.

Rep. Richard Hudson (R., N.C.), who introduced the bill, called its passage an early Christmas present for gun rights advocates.

"For the millions of law-abiding citizens who lawfully carry concealed to protect themselves, for conservatives who want to strengthen our Second Amendment rights, and for the overwhelming majority of Americans who support concealed carry reciprocity, Christmas came early," Rep. Hudson said.

Gun rights activists cheered the bill's passage while gun control proponents decried it.

2. I was just reading an interesting bit of a book about the Third Reich.

With "Heil Hitler!" Nazi party members attempted to recompose the body of Germans; the arc of the right hand raised at an angle in front of the body drastically expanded the physical claim of National Socialists to public space.

-- Life and Death in the Third Reich, Peter Fritzsche, page 22

(Googling some phrase from that passage will find it in google books for you.)

The assertion of control over public space is exactly what Trump's base have been longing to do for a long time, and have been doing incrementally whenever and wherever they can. The Ten Commandments in courts, alt-right gatherings and demonstrations ... and guns in parks, public buildings, restaurants and shopping districts ...

(Not to mention guns on private property and laws against the owners prohibiting them.)

Total strangers all around openly carrying weapons -- or carrying them concealed so that one has no idea who might be a danger -- is, and is intended to be, a method of intimidation.

Any individual carrying a firearm may imagine himself or herself to be a freedom fighter, or a Scout prepared for all eventualities and ready to defend and protect.

The fact is that he or she is a tool of a much broader right-wing effort, carried on by a variety of tightly or loosely affiliated groups, to simply take over. Just as the "free speech" activities of the right wing have nothing to do with speech, and everything to do with power. This particular part of the effort is simply a show of force.

And now, those people who have resisted this takeover of their public spaces in their own communities have been well and truly put in their place. They are not in control of what goes on there; the right wing is.

(And no, this has nothing to do with so-called Nazi gun control, and nobody is saying that gun militants and their puppetmasters are Nazis. So just don't bother.)

3. "The assertion of control over public space is exactly what Trump's base have been longing to do"

I believe that may be the single most hypocritical thing you've ever said.
Tell us, Fuzzy Jane... what exactly, as part of "Trump's base" do I want to control?
Do tell. And I want details here... not imaginary hyperbole you read at the DUmp or WaPo either

4. I'm actually not interested in being told what I do.

"And I want details here... not imaginary hyperbole you read at the DUmp or WaPo either"

If you want something, try asking nicely rather than pretending to think that the person you are addressing is a fool.

12. talking in circles seems to be your profession.

You stated "Trumps base wants to control everything".
I'm telling you to back it up with something other than inane babbling. You can't.
And besides that, how would any US law affect a meddling foreigner anyway?

6. Gibberish pure unadulterated gibberish.

How is one man carrying a weapon "controlling the public space"?

How is calling for respect for the first amendment something else? I mean I know how your monarch feels about that and all, but we tossed them out a couple of hundred years ago down here.

9. "How is one man carrying a weapon "controlling the public space"?"

I don't know; why do you ask?

You chose to insinuate that I said pretty much the opposite of what I did say.

I don't know why you do that.

You chose to think you're a really cool cat tossing around clever insults.

I don't know why you would think that.

14. If a Hitler type were to rise in America

They would be a product of the left.
Because the left is stupid enough to fall for it.
A few catchy slogans, a little instigation of class warfare and a couple of made up boogeymen..... oh wait the leftist fools have already fallen for it.

15. Seems like a bunch of projection with a dash of plain dumb.

"...the arc of the right hand raised at an angle in front of the body drastically expanded the physical claim...to public space."

The assertion of control over public space is...

"Total strangers all around ...or carrying them concealed so that one has no idea who might be a danger -- is, and is intended to be, a method of intimidation."

How can people be intimidated by things they cannot see?

"Just as the 'free speech' activities of the right wing have nothing to do with speech, and everything to do with power. This particular part of the effort is simply a show of force."

"And now, those people who have resisted this takeover of their public spaces in their own communities have been well and truly put in their place. They are not in control of what goes on there; the right wing is."

17. As all of your examples have been around pretty much since the founding of our country

How do you come to the conclusion that it's all about Trump's base and the takeover and control over public spaces?

8. I can tell you right now.

Extreme gun control states will be spending a shitload of tax dollars in legal fees and lawsuits when they have their police make an example of carrying gun owners from out of state. I guarantee you an out of state gun owner is going to be wrongly harassed and brought up on bullshit charges with all the force of the anti-gun wackos behind it. They will, of course, eventually lose and pay out, but not before destroying some lawful people’s lives because of an agenda of trying to make an example to scare people into not carrying under this law.

So I'm not sure why there is even any interest.
