12. He gave so many of the best quotes in the first 10 minutes of Full Metal Jacket...

...that picking a favorite just isn’t possible, so here is the entire opening scene:

14. On the 8th day

And on the 7th day, as you know, God rested.

But on the 8th day, at 0730, God looked down upon the earth and was not happy. No, God was not happy! So He thought about His labors, and in His divine wisdom God created a divine creature. And this He called Marine. And these Marines, who God had created in His own image, were to be of the air, and of the land, and of the sea. And these...

And at the end of the 8th day, God looked down upon the earth and saw that it was good. But was God happy? No! God was still not happy! Because in the course of His labors, He had forgotten one thing: He did not have a Marine uniform for himself. He thought about it, and thought about it, and finally God satisfied Himself in knowing that, well... not everybody can be a Marine!

RIP Sargent.

16. Oh, what a hero.

And we all know why he is being lauded as such.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R._Lee_Ermey#Political_views

On December 10, 2010, Ermey denounced the Obama administration's economic policies while speaking at a Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots rally, stating that it was difficult to raise money for the charity because "the economy sucks". He went on to say:

We should all rise up, and we should stop this administration from what they're doing because they're destroying this country. They're driving us into bankruptcy so that they can impose socialism on us, and that's exactly what they're doing, and I'm sick and damn tired of it and I know you are too.

In January 2011, Ermey posted an apology on his website, saying:

I regret that I delivered a monologue that was inappropriately critical of the President. My comments were misguided and emotionally biased, and for that I am truly sorry.

In spite of his apology, Ermey later told TMZ that he was fired by GEICO, for whom he made the above-mentioned 2010 "Drill Sergeant" commercial, because of his political beliefs. The insurance giant also removed Ermey's commercial from their official YouTube channel.

Ermey subsequently stated that his anti-Obama views had caused him to be blackballed by Hollywood, resulting in a lack of new film roles for him.

Ermey knew Donald Trump Jr., and stated that he was confident that should Donald Trump become president, "our Second Amendment rights are solid as a rock".

18. Yet however sincere and heartfelt his first words, his ownership of them is the mark of a man...

...and the content of his character, a character evidenced by the love of his fellows, a love which shall endure as his legacy. -- Wm*

19. Married for 43 years, until death do they part.

But one example of the man's character.
