Europe To Pay Iran In Euros For Oil, Abandoning The Dollar

By Himanshu Goenka @HimGoJourno

European countries are considering dumping the dollar in favor of the euro when it comes to making payments to Iran for its crude oil, Russian media reported Wednesday, citing a diplomatic source who had knowledge of the development. Since President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the Iran nuclear deal May 8, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), European nations who were also part of the deal have been working with Iran to prevent it from collapsing.

“I’m privy to the information that the EU is going to shift from dollar to euro to pay for crude from Iran,” the diplomatic source reportedly told Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

The purpose of the JCPOA was to limit Iran’s nuclear activities to peaceful uses, and its collapse risks the country restarting its pursuit of nuclear weapons, a scenario that will further aggravate the already restive Middle East. The European Union has been trying to avoid that scenario, and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said Tuesday that bloc and Iran had agreed to devise practical workarounds to the United States’ unilateral withdrawal from the deal.

Crude oil prices have been historically pegged to the dollar on international markets, and therefore, any attempt to circumvent the dollar as payment for crude oil would be difficult for anyone buying it from Iran. Further, the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran by the U.S. would also make it difficult for the country to receive payments for its oil exports. These facts are not lost on the EU.

7. We will see if the Americans will wage war leading an All Religion coalition

of Israel and Saudi against Iran and their allies. I doubt if the latter two (Israel or Saudi) are seeking the End Times.

10. Egypt and Jordan

Have also been working with the US and Israel along with Saudi Arabia.

All want Iran gone because Iran will destabilise all of those countries if given the chance to do so.

This is why I say Europe is not even part of this equasion. Nothing they can do but kick scream and role around on the ground in their own urine and feces.

12. US allies in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Multi-National Force – Iraq (MNF–I), often referred to as the coalition forces, was a military command during the 2003 invasion of Iraq and much of the ensuing Iraq War, led by the United States of America (Operation Iraqi Freedom), United Kingdom (Operation TELIC), Australia, Spain and Poland, responsible for conducting and handling military operations.

The number of Nato forces peaked at about 140,000 in 2011, but decreased in subsequent years as Nato countries wound down combat operations, handing over control to local security forces.

Countries with troops still in Afghanistan include the US, Georgia, Germany, Turkey, Romania, Italy, the UK and Australia.

No Saudi.
No Jordanians.
No Egyptians.
No Israeli.

They all had the chance to support the US mission in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't see that group as forming a coalition to invade Iran. Without the US, a Saudi, Jordan, Egyptian group would never get off the ground.

Now that the Iran deal was trashed by trump, the EU has not reason to support a US operation against Iran.

The Israeli can start a nuclear war and face the outcome, but they aren't about to. Iran isn't about to invade Israel or the Saudi or Jordan or Egypt.

The Arab refugees are a direct result of the US policy and Saudi involvement. Stabilizing Iraq and Syria should be the priority to stem the tide of ISIS terrorism.

13. What you just laid out

Is actually why an Egyptian, Jordanian Saudi colilition could get off the ground if we participate.

Nobody else is going to save them from Iran so they may have to finally have their own skin in the game.

14. You think the Saudi will risk themselves?

The Saudi will fight to last drop of American blood.

The Jordanians aren't interested in taking those kind of causalities. Besides, who's going to defend Jordan if its army some how gets to Iran. They don't go into Syria for the same reason.

Egypt might be willing, as long as it didn't last more than two weeks. Which one of the Egyptian Generals would stage a coup while the better units were out of the country? All of them.

9. Yup

And if the decision were up to me, for starters, I would counter by moving all our military assets in Europe to Eastern Europe and place tariffs on all Western European imports.

3. It's their money.

If Iran and the EU agree, a deal is a deal.
