Senate Democrats considering blocking all legislation that doesn't reopen the government

Senate Democrats will try to block action on a Syria sanctions bill when it comes up for a vote Tuesday, an effort to keep the focus on the government shutdown.

Democrats also will discuss at their weekly policy lunch Wednesday whether to broaden that blocking tactic to all legislation, according to a senior Democratic aide.

A separate senior Democratic aide said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer "has notified the (Democratic) caucus that he will vote against proceeding to S.1 because Senate Republicans should instead bring to the floor the House-passed bills to reopen the government."

Over the weekend, the two Democratic senators from Maryland -- Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen -- who represent thousands of furloughed federal government workers, first publicly raised the idea of blocking bills on the floor to raise the political stakes on President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is refusing to put any government funding bills on the floor unless Trump supports them.

Great idea! Yertle wants to frame the shutdown like it is strictly a problem between House Democrats and Trump. This should put some of his skin in the game, like it or not.

3. Like it matters? The BEST THING for Americans is when the legislature does nothing

As for Syria sanctions -- it is foreign policy which gives the President great latitude anyway as CiC and frankly doesn't affect Americans much anyway.

The most beautiful words in the world for America is "Congressional deadlock."

12. He shut it down over national security

Democrats in true form are showing they do not care about national security or the lives of American citizens. Fuck them and keep it shutdown.

Even after the Omnibus is vetoed all SS, Medicare, Medicaid and Welfare programs still get paid. Most people will not even know the federal government has been mothballed.

15. He did shut it down

Because he would not accept a bill that did not protect the country and its citizens. The Democrats are standing tall for illegal immigration, drug trafficking, child trafficking, slave trade, and the continuing murder of US citizens by illegal aliens!

Thank God we finally have a president that says no more and is willing to stand up for the country. Unlike the Democrats who are trying like hell to sell the country down the river!

Trump will win on this and the Democrats will be holding an anti American shit sandwich.

I asked Joe Manchin in January 2013 to push for that when he first became a US senator.
