New York City has ordered yeshivas in a heavily Orthodox Jewish section of Brooklyn to exclude from classes all students who aren't vaccinated against measles or face violations and possible closure.

The city health department's order to all yeshivas in Williamburg comes amid a measles outbreak, with 285 cases of the disease in Brooklyn and Queens since October, most of them involving members of the Orthodox Jewish community.

"Any school out of compliance will immediately be issued a violation," the health department said in a release Monday.

The outbreak started when an unvaccinated child acquired measles on a visit to Israel, where a large outbreak of the disease is occurring, the health department says on its website. "Since then, there have been additional people from Brooklyn and Queens who were unvaccinated and acquired measles while in Israel."

1. US Measles Tally Hits 465, With Most Illnesses In Kids

By MIKE STOBBE

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. measles cases are continuing to jump, and most of the reported illnesses are in children.

Health officials say 465 measles cases have been reported this year, as of last week. That’s up from 387 the week before.

The numbers are preliminary. The 2019 tally is already the most since 2014, when 667 were reported. The most before that was 963 cases in 1994.

Outbreaks have hit several states, including California, Michigan and New Jersey. New York City accounted for about two-thirds of the U.S. cases reported last week.

2. As well they should...

as well anyone should, actually.

Selfish bastards. If they want to play needless games with the health of their own kids, fine. Let them.

But there are tons of people out there with low immunity who don't deserve being sick, or even dying, because some asshole thinks vaccinations are sent by the devil.

They think vaccinations cause autism, etc and are more afraid of that than of their kid dying from a preventable disease. Not to mention having to suffer with the disease. As a child I was sick with just about everything that got passed around. I would not purposely expose a kid to being sick like that. It's child abuse.

But anyway...bottom line is....if you're not going to vaccinate your kid, quarantine him.

3. I think I had the measles back when I was a very young kid but I do remember both my dad and I

having the mumps because we both laid in bed together. I couldn't have been more than 2 or 3.

Going to ask mom (92) when I go see her in the next couple of days. Her body is failing her but her mind isn't, thank God.

4. yeah ....

mumps was another disease we had back then, along with the mixed bag of colds, flu, and other things that caused projectile vomiting.

You are truly lucky to have a mom whose mind is still active at that age!
