British General Contradicts U.S. Claim of Increased Threat From Iran-Backed Militias

BY AMY GUNIA

The top British general in the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS says there is not an increased threat from Iranian-backed forces in Iraq or Syria, despite claims to the contrary by the U.S. to justify increasing its presence in the region.

“No – there’s been no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces in Iraq and Syria,” Maj. Gen. Christopher Ghika, deputy commander of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), the coalition responsible for counter-terrorist operations against ISIS in Iraq and Syria, said in a video briefing, according to the Guardian.

Ghika said that he has not seen Shia militias in Iraq, who have varying ties to Iran, change their stance recently. “I think it’s important to say that many of them are compliant and we have seen no change in that posture since the recent exchange between the United States and Iran,” he said, according to the Guardian.

Ghika’s comments contradict those of U.S. officials, who cited “clear indications” that Iran or Iranian-backed forces were preparing for a possible attack against U.S. forces as justification for the deployment of an an aircraft carrier and a bomber task force to the Middle East earlier this month.

1. Same British Army that tells its Soldiers not to wear their Uniforms off base

In ENGLAND? That British Army?

British soldiers have been warned not to wear their uniform outside barracks amid fears of a Woolwich copycat attack.

They have also been told not to let strangers know that they are serving in the British Army.

Whitehall officials are understood to have noticed increased ‘chatter’ among jihadists wanting to carry out a beheading or other high-profile attack on a serving soldier.

Fanatics have been carrying out internet searches for the location of army barracks across the country to identify targets, the Mail has learnt.

The threat level for the armed forces has been raised from ‘substantial’ to ‘severe’, meaning a terrorist attack on military personnel is highly likely.

But commanders have told soldiers to act as if the threat is ‘critical’ – the highest level of terrorism alert – and to be ready for an imminent attack.

Politicians said military personnel should not be forced to ‘hide away’ by not wearing their uniform proudly in public.

Labour MP John Woodcock said: ‘Our military personnel will understandably follow the immediate safety advice they are given but ministers must understand people want our brave troops to be loud and proud in their communities, not being forced to hide away.

‘It would be a stomach-churning victory for the terrorists if their cowardly attacks resulted in a permanent ban on our servicemen and women displaying their uniforms in public.’

Soldiers were warned it is ‘highly likely’ that terrorist groups will use the internet – and social media sites such as Facebook – to choose targets because of the ‘wealth of personal information available’.

10. Did you read it? The word aggression does not appear anywhere in the article.

How the hell you can you claim Ali Larjiani was "clearly" talking about aggression when in fact he clearly stated he was talking about a response to "additional pressures", as in economic sanctions, is beyond me.

Every nation, including the US, is well within their rights to impose economic sanctions on other countries.
