1. Another dumbass progressive idea

Right now it's funny, but if this keeps up it's gonna kill people.

Imagine a fleet of electric fire trucks in Detroit in January.

BTW, according to the article the cruiser had been properly charged prior to the shift.

3. No it's a lot different

Whole bunch of external factors change an electric vehicles performance,

AAA did a study this year cold (32 degrees) reduces an EVs range by about 40% without using the cabin heater. Heat (90 degrees) by about 10% again without running the air conditioner.

5. I think something important was not included in the OP

from the link in the OP

"The police spokeswoman says the Tesla’s battery was at least half-full at the beginning of the shift, which is in line with general guidelines."

DOH!

Well - most batteries efficiency decreases as the charge lessens. Bottom "half" ain't gonna double the first half - not by a long shot.

Also, fast acceleration and maintained high speed decrease the mileage per tankful/charge.

to date, no electric vehicle can match the range of a gas powered one.

There are some applications (obviously) that shouldn't rely on electric vehicles - cold climates is one of them. If you got lots of $$ and can afford one for fair weather driving - fine, but better have gas around when temps regularly go down to -20 30C in the winter if you're gonna drive any distance at all - a short commute, no problem - but a long distance trip furget it.

7. How long...

Does it to to pump fuel compared to charging?

Yeah, it's not different.
