Sondland Updates Impeachment Testimony, Describing Ukraine Quid Pro Quo

BY Michael S. Schmidt 54 mins ago

WASHINGTON — A critical witness in the impeachment inquiry offered Congress substantial new testimony this week, revealing that he told a top Ukrainian official that the country likely would not receive American military aid unless it publicly committed to investigations President Trump wanted.

Sondland, the ambassador to the European Union, gave a more robust description of his role in alerting top Ukrainian officials that they needed to go along with investigative requests by the president’s personal lawyer.

The disclosure from Gordon D. Sondland, the United States ambassador to the European Union, in four new pages of sworn testimony released on Tuesday, confirmed his involvement in essentially laying out a quid pro quo to Ukraine that he had previously not acknowledged.

The testimony offered several major new details beyond the account he gave the inquiry in a 10-hour interview last month. Mr. Sondland provided a more robust description of his own role in alerting the Ukrainians that they needed to go along with investigative requests being demanded by the president’s personal lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani. By early September, Mr. Sondland said, he had become convinced that military aid and a White House meeting were conditioned on Ukraine committing to those investigations.

Mr. Sondland had said in a text message exchange in early September with William B. Taylor Jr., the top American diplomat in Ukraine, that the president had been clear there was no quid pro quo between the aid and investigations of former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., his son and other Democrats. But Mr. Sondland testified last month that he was only repeating what Mr. Trump had told him, leaving open the question of whether he believed the president. The new account suggested that Mr. Sondland may have not been completely forthcoming with Mr. Taylor, and that he was, in fact, aware that the aid was contingent upon the investigations.

In his updated testimony, Mr. Sondland recounted how he had discussed the linkage with Andriy Yermak, a top adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, on the sidelines of a Sept. 1 meeting between Vice President Mike Pence and Mr. Zelensky in Warsaw. Mr. Zelensky had discussed the suspension of aid with Mr. Pence, Mr. Sondland said.

3. "Updated testimony" changed his story.

He wasn't "forthcoming" in his original testimony? In other words, his handlers
have decided he needed to step up the B.S. to be impeachment worthy.

4. The headline doesn't match the article

Democucks are clumsily struggling to explain how there can be a Quid Pro Quo without a quid or a quo, all to save their corrupt Quid Pro Joe from an electoral wipeout.

7. Then the Dems lied about what he said the second time and made untrue claims. Just today's big lie

We get at least one big lie every day from the house Dems. Every so called big story they put out will be shown to be a lie in three days or less.

12. A left wing site that lies about the supposed lies told by Trump. No thanks I'm done with lefty lies

I believe the official reports from UNBIASED sources.

No rational person should ever believe anything the left says again. They are liars and should be treated as such.

The left lied about and created out of pure fiction the Russian collusion delusion then continued to lie about it thousands of times, many of those lies right here on this board, each and every day. That is just one of their multitude of lies but it was told millions of time by you on the left.

It is time that the left be labeled the liars they are and categorized as being worthless and useless in any honorable undertaking.

The left, the democrats, have become the party of desperate and pathetic serial liars. Because of this anything and everything they utter should be considered just another worthless lie.

The IG and BARR investigation are out soon. I bet you can't wait.

Criminal charges are coming out of the BARR investigation and they will not be against the Republicans.

All of the charges against Flynn will dropped and the judgement against him vacated within a month. Why? Because the left just got caught telling more lies in that case.

It never stops, so, we just have to stop listening to all the lies from the left and bluntly, and loudly confront them each and every time calling them the liars that they are.

You have not won, you have just pissed many, many voters off who happen to value telling the truth above playing politics.

15. Many of the lies

are verifiable just by listening to his words on Youtube and comparing them to what we KNOW is the truth.

Many times he has been recorded as saying something that he later insisted he NEVER said. How can that be "biased"??

But yeah...it's all "lies" unless Rump or Faux News says it's not. And usually the "lies" spread by the Evil Left is anything that doesn't make Rump look like the stable genius he thinks he is.

PS....and I did ask you to kindly list all the "lies" you claim Democrats have told about him. Preferably from an unbiased source. If you can't do it, make it easy and just say so.

18. I'm not interested in BS known truth. The truth I believe in can be verified by provable facts!!!!

When the left says something they want all others to believe it is fact when in reality is is only pure BS words.

Facts determine the truth. I've seen a hundred posts right on this board as to the left knowing that trump was guilty of Prussian collusion. That was lies and BS on top of lies and BS.

Lies and BS told time after time by the left and presented as fact.

Therefore it you can not support your words with provable facts I consider them BS lies. I have zero time or energy for liars at this stage of the game.

I was raised to know that liars are nasty despicable people and the sum and total of the democrat party have become desperate and pathetic serial liars. They are truly nasty and despicable people.

Two big events are coming up soon and neither of them will be good for the democrats. The DOJ IG's report, and the Barr criminal investigation complete with Grand Jury, in session right now, indictments against the Obama DOJ personnel, segments of the FBI, and CIA.

Don't invest too much or yourself in defending the indefensible, they are going down.

8. If I understand his new testimony correctly, Sondland is now saying that

1. He was not truthful before.
2. He was explicitly told by Trump that the two were not linked.
3. He was never told by Trump that the two were linked.
4. He (Sondland) was the person who linked them, without being told to do so, in a conversation with a top Ukrainian advisor.

Explain why this is bad for Trump? It sounds like Sondland just stepped on the landmine.

11. Just a thought here....

but it's bad for tRump as more and more of his OWN people come forward to verify that he virtually held aid money hostage in order to get dirt (or manufacture it) against one of his political rivals.

13. Thats actually not what happened here, according to Sondland.

He said Trump told him that these two things were NOT linked, and Sondland was the one who linked them. Perhaps we’ll hear the phrase “overzealous staffer” in the near future.

Now, maybe you believe he’s lying, and that’s a possibility, given that his “new testimony” seems to directly contradict his old testimony.

16. Other people have said it.

He claimed nothing of the kind was said, or implied.

Then he backed off from that

But he still changed the essence of his testimony and is falling more in line with what some others have read, or heard.

And don't forget....these are Rump's OWN people going against him.

Apparently they've learned what happens when they show undeserved loyalty to someone who would throw their asses under the bus in the blink of an eye and not even care.

17. Trump's "own person" looks like he stepped on a landmine FOR Trump.

If Trump didn't tell him the two were linked, and Sondland admits that he told the Ukrainian official that they were, then you now have a situation where the Ukrainian government can say they believed the two things were linked, and Trump can say that was not his intent or doing.
