My phone wakes me up telling me NOT to worry about a nuclear incident . . . . wtf????

A blaring of horns - a new noise in my life, introduced me to the new "bonus" I got with my new cell phone. Took me a while to realize it wasn't the fire alarms, and dug out my rarely used cell . . .

here's all I could find on the web (Google):

An incident has been reported at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. An emergency alert sent just before 7:30 a.m. said no abnormal release of radioactivity from the station has been detected and people within 10 km of the plant do not need to take any action at this time.

4. I'm 12 miles from Shippingport, as the crow files

They tell us anything further than 10 miles is peachy. I have the tablets anyways, just in case.

3. I get it

I'm about 12 miles from Shippingport, which if you remember your history, was the 1st commercial reactor in the world. Beaver Valley Reactors 1 and 2 are still there, so we get the yearly drill.

Frankly the biggest danger from them is not a potential accident, it's the freezing fog that comes from the cooling towers and drifts across the Ohio River in winter and coats the main road north of the river.

Even though they say this is absurd, I do keep a bottle of iodine tablets handy, just in case.

I also have a few of these, more for the collectability than anything else.
