oh oh, or "I lost my job today"

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-51452218

A piano virtuoso is mourning the loss of her "best friend" after movers dropped her grand piano.

Canadian Angela Hewitt is acclaimed as one of the world's leading classical pianists.

All of her European recordings since 2003 were performed on her Fazioli F278 concert grand piano, which was the only one in the world to have four pedals.

She says two weeks ago movers came into her recording studio to tell her they had "dropped" it.

The piano was kept at her home in Italy, and pianopricepoint.com estimates it is worth over $200,000 (£155,000).

1. Odd that there are no details on how it was "dropped".

Edit: is that a baby grand in the picture?

2. Dunno on how it happened. The CNN article doesn't say any more than the BBC one.

7. I paid $89k 15 years ago

Today, after the rebuild, I'd guess I'm in your range. We're having a reassessment this year so I'll be finding out soon enough what the county thinks it's worth.

9. You do know that county property assessment is a racket dont you?

It’s a back door way to collect more taxes, but property owners feel good that their property increases in value, but only when you sell it.

10. Yes I know it is

I have never considered my home to be an investment vehicle. When you buy a home you aren't buying an investment, you're buying a lifestyle.

The fact they are coming around means I will put off certain improvements and the completion of the last of our rebuild after our fire (The front still needs to have stone hung). As of now I still have Tyvek and steel lathe up to attach the stone there. It will stay that way until the county thieves come and make their valuation. It doesn't affect the quality of my life inside, or how warm or cool we are, so I don't mind looking a bit like a little slice of West Virginia for a few months more. I've got all the materials to finish the job stashed in my garage. As it is since I'm still recovering from major surgery, I'm restricted to lifting no more than 10 pounds for the next several months.
