Many Democrats believe a Gasoline Tax increase of $0.45 a gallon is needed.

Many Democrats see low gasoline prices as an opportunity to increase the Federal tax by as much as $0.45 to help with infrastructure and address global warming. Missouri, for examp!e, has many pumps that are charging $1.85 per gallon for regular grades. A permanent Federal tax increase of $0.45 could raise the price to $2.30 which historically is inexpensive.

Many Democrats be!I've that this issue will get overwhelming support from voters this fall. Democrat candidates are beginning to embrace this revenue increase.

1. i think the gas tax should be higher.

to encourage conservation and to help pay for the war.

conservatives/republicans do not generally understand that cheap gasoline is just "free stuff" that we taxpayers pay for on april 15.

3. You're planning on a war? further, affordable gas is not a govt freebie. it's a private enterprise

that supports itself and still makes a profit. we will not be paying for it on the 15th.

everything in you post is wrong

9. without trillions in foreign aid and wars

including a fleet protecting tankers and such, all provided by the usa taxpayer for the benefit of the industrialized world do you think gas would be under $5/gallon?

"private enterprise" indeed! government subsidized monopoly is more like it. 1

11. Wrong again. We have enough oil in the US. DEMOCRATS want foreign oil.

Democrats are every bit beholden to the Military industrial complex as the GOP.
The only guy who EVER avoided war was Trump. Even 0bamy expanded our footprint in the MidEast.

The US has more than enough oil to completely ignore imports. You might want to support that if you don't want foreign wars.

4. It sounds like the Bloomberg strategy...

Decide how people should behave, and then significantly raise taxes on it so that poor people, who are hardest hit, have to change their behavior, while the wealthy can continue about their lives.

Bloomberg knows that if poor people knew what was best for them, they wouldn’t be poor. Thankfully, politicians like Mike have a plan for government to fix that.

5. Agreed. I'm all for taxes that hurt the poor the most.

Half the people in the country don't pay federal income tax. I think every way possible should be found to make them pull their weight some.

2. Many Democrats believe

Many Democrats are misguided.

There I fixed it.

A higher gas tax raises the costs of every single thing we buy or use.

Besides is it really a good idea to use taxes to control behaviors? Imagine an abortion tax to conserve on the number preformed?

15. I'll never understand the living situation of a person who believes this.

Who needs to drive, right? The bodega's right downstairs on the corner, and the commute to work is just a jaunty eight-minute bike ride.

Seriously, who are these people?

19. The hit on the economy would be enormous

Unemployment would surge and everything, not just gas, would become more expensive. I suppose after this is passed and revenues drop due to higher unemployment the Dems will support a further increase to make up for the lost revenue.

Why would Dems, the so called champions of the lower class, support a tax increase that will disproportionately hammer the lower class?

I also love the fact that they see low gas prices as an opportunity to raise taxes. As if gas prices will always stay low. It was only a few years ago that we were paying close to $5 a gallon for gas here in CT.

Anyone supporting this has not considered the ramifications.
