The Venezuelan government is gearing up to escort Iranian tankers into the country. In a statement Wednesday, Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino confirmed the government’s armed forces will accompany five Iranian vessels carrying millions of dollars worth of fuel.

This comes as the South American country is facing nationwide gasoline shortages.

“We’ve established contact with the Iranian defense minister and all those ships, when they enter our exclusive economic zone, they will be escorted by Bolivarian National Armed Forces boats and planes to welcome them in,” stated Minister Padrino. “And thank the Iranian people for their solidarity and cooperation in the midst of these difficulties that all of humanity is confronting in common.”

According to reports, the move comes as Venezuelan officials hunker down against increased anti-trafficking patrols carried out by the U.S. Navy off the country’s coast. However, Washington has not yet indicated whether they will intercept the Iranian tankers.

Two points Lefty needs to address,
1) How is an oil rich nation like Venezuela needing to import oil from Iran?
2) This is the same navy who rammed a cruise liner with a battleship...and the battleship sank. Just how safe are the Iranians?

1. The Iranian sailors should be very worried

about the inept Venezuelan armed forces.

3. They're both pretty bad.

The Venezuelan navy accidentally collided with a cruiseship that was stalled due to engine troubles, and the Iranians recently sank one of their own as hips during a live fire exercise.

I can see both navies teaming up against a US force and the US commander watching in absolute befuddlement as they ram and shoot each other.

"How many enemy vessels were sunk?"

"All twelve, Admiral."

"And how many missiles did you fire?"

"Um...none."

"What?"

"Well, this is where it gets a little weird, ma'am."
