MN State Fair canceled...largest by attendance in nation

https://www.hometownsource.com/elk_river_star_news/press-release-minnesota-state-fair-canceled/article_c32eabde-9c46-11ea-b392-673fb11d8a47.html

"Since its inception, the fair has been held every year with only five exceptions: in 1861 and 1862 due to the Civil War and U.S.-Dakota War, in 1893 because of scheduling conflicts with the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, in 1945 due to federal government travel restrictions during World War II, and in 1946 due to a polio epidemic."

--------------------------------
There are vendors at the fair who earn a very large part, if not most, of their annual income at the fair. Devastating news.
I lived in MN for 15 years and learned how big this fair is to Minnesotans. Last year's attendance was over
2.1 million people in the ten days it was open. Huge loss. Would have run from Aug, 27th to Sept, 7th.

1. Canceled in NY, too.

Camping season here in Upstate is not gonna happen either.

That's gonna hurt in my area. Big time.

4. I'm sure NY is going to hurt big time,,as it already has.

Over 80% of MN deaths have come from nursing homes and
the elderly who wouldn't be attending the fair this year anyway.
MN like NY has housed covid patients in nursing homes!

Luckily, I live in Texas now. Gov. Abbott is allowing youth camps
which are huge in my area to re-open. My county, Kerr, has had 11
cases...and I think now it's up to ten of those recovered.

2. It's what happens when people elect risk-averse leadership

Most democrats are afraid of their own shadow.

6. In fairness it was a board of fair people that

canceled the fair....however, Walz would have, I think,
canceled it if the board hadn't.

3. So 80% of covid deaths are occuring in assisted living facilities

The death per million is higher than many nearby states.

Minnesota’s answer: announce a shutdown of a gathering that is several months away.
Nice move Tim Walz.

Minnesotans are a mostly agreeable sort. They are gonna lose their shit over this, in a big way.

Republican hopefuls in state races are going to ride this shit right into office in November, provided trunk loads of uncounted ballots don’t keep showing up, to be counted, days after the election is over..

I personally love this, i haven't been to the fair since 2005 anyway. And it should swing a few seats toward more liberty minded folks amongst us.

5. The cancelation of the fair may be the line in the sand

for, how did you put it, the "mostly agreeable sort". I hope
that's the case. I used to often muse how Minnesotans
would say (about poor weather, e.g.) that 'things could be
worse'. They had the capacity to "weather" situations and
make do. I'll worry if they don't get upset about the fair.
