Sweden's prime minister calls snap election for March 22

STOCKHOLM (AFP) - Sweden's left-leaning Prime Minister Stefan Loefven, in power for just two months, called snap elections for March 22 on Wednesday after a far-right party defeated his budget.

The announcement followed failure by the ruling coalition to push through its budget when the far-right Sweden Democrats refused to give their backing, citing opposition to the government's pro-immigration policies.

Israel goes to the polls on March 17.
