72 Things Liberals Want Conservatives To Understand About Us

I think this is an interesting list. It's from poll done a few weeks ago on the Liberal America Facebook page.. For the sake of room, I'm only posting the first 12 on the list of 72. See the rest at the link.
1. I don’t love abortion. I am just passionate about a woman not having to raise children in poverty.
2. I don’t hate white people. I just think that some people start from a huge disadvantage and should have some extra help in their path to achieving their dreams.
3. I don’t hate rich people. I just think that some people start with a foundation and advantages that not everyone has.
4. I don’t hate men. I just would like men to work harder at understanding the special challenges that women face.
5. I don’t hate republicans, I just hate how they are trying to undo the last hundred years of social progress.
6. It’s not that I dislike successful people with money, I just think when you’ve been successful, it’s important to contribute back to the society you’ve achieved in by paying taxes and helping to elevate those with the least. I believe a rising tide lifts all boats and lifting the least provides a more solid base for my goods and services.
7. I’m not trying to be argumentative. I believe in equality and bringing out the best in and for every child because I believe in a world where people matter.
8. I am not pro-abortion. I just believe every woman has a right to her own body.
9. I am not anti-gun. I think that there needs to be more restrictions on those who want to purchase them.
10. I do not hate Christians. I just think that I can live my life without religion and still be a good person.
11. I don’t hate America. I am a patriot and love my country; I just want it to be a better place for all of us.
12. I do not think we should support everyone financially. I just think we should try to see what others are going through.

1. As a liberal, I think lists like this suck and are counterproductive

They invite ridicule and do nothing to "help conservatives understand liberals".

Conservatives don't want to "understand" liberals... they want to annihilate us.

The sooner we realize we are at war, and not just part of some "big misunderstanding", the sooner we can eradicate conservativism from our public policy.

Lists like this just invite ridicule.... and I predict that just about every reply in this thread from conservatives will prove me right.

Ugh. Stop trying to get conservatives to "understand". They are unable to. It is in their DNA. This is a waste of time and counterproductive.

11. This was compiled from a Facebook poll

I don't see how it's counterproductive to share what some liberals wanted conservatives to know. It's better than constant back and forth bickering, imo.

12. "what liberals want conservatives to understand about us"

The title implies that conservatives' problem with liberals is a lack of understanding and that if we could just all "understand each other a little better", everything would be ok.

They understand us just fine. They will wipe their asses with lists like this.

The organization that compiled this list and is presenting it to conservatives so they "understand us" is incredibly naive and inviting ridicule.

Conservatives want to annihilate us, not "understand" us. The sooner we realize that, the better off we'll be.

We, as liberals, are in a middle of a war that we didn't start.... and we better start understanding that.

People on the right have been trying to protect the country from liberalism for over 200 years, I think they have a total understanding of what liberalism is all about.

Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, etc.... liberals, every one of them.

28. Today's liberals are NOTHING like the classic liberals of the past

If they were, our founding documents would be full of examples pointing out that the state must control and provide for the people, not the exact opposite.

32. Very, very good points.

Please add John Adams and especially Samuel Adams
And John Jay.
Jefferson?.....with him I would say it is tricky...

If the conservatives -aka Tories- had had their way, we would now probably be part of the failed British Empire, who knows. Maybe we actually would have ended up like Canada. Humm, now there's a thought.

And a vast majority of these men were highly educated and were actually thinkers and ponderers.
John Adams spoke English and passable French and read the 'Classics' in their original languages, English, French, Latin and Greek, as did his eldest son, John Quincy.

Damn I flunked French twice... But, I can speak Japanese and doable Mandarin.. whew !

That is why We The People created this country

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

4. Overall, it's a good list, but maybe she needs a proofreader/editor

72 seems an odd number for this sort of list, but she repeats herself too much. Could have easily been a Top 50 list if she had consolidated the subjects she repeats multiple times into single entries.

17. Number nine

9. I am not anti-gun. I think that there needs to be more restrictions on those who want to purchase them. Why? What restrictions? As a liberal, do you agree with the idea that the State, or advocates of restrictions, have to prove their case on why there is a compelling interest, or is it part of a culture war? If it isn't a culture war, why the intellectual dishonesty and lack of rational arguments on the part of those who seek those restrictions? If, as a liberal, you support grassroots of the "99 percent" over the astro turf of the monied interests, why do you side with the latter on this issue?
How familiar are you with current federal gun control laws? Your state laws? What additional gun laws could the US or California have that could have prevented three people from being stabbed and three people from getting shot in California?
What will they accomplish? How will it stop criminal misuse of guns since most gun crimes are committed by people who didn't legally buy them to begin with
10. I do not hate Christians. I just think that I can live my life without religion and still be a good person. Why is there so much religious bigotry on the left? Why doesn't the left call out its own racists and bigots? During the last election, what was the difference between Thom Hartman's and Lawrence O'Donnell's anti Mormon screeds and Glen Beck's anti Muslim screeds?
I agree with post 14. I'm "liberal" in most ways, I just don't blindly follow the label.

conservative but let me give this a shot from their perspective

1. ok
2. That's fine, give them help if you want. But no holding others back in the process or forcing someone else to help.
3. And that justifies attacking rich people why?
4. No problem, just don't expect them to behave differently because you want them to
5. Nothing wrong with social progress, the problem is in how that progress is accomplished
6. Why does the government need to be involved?
7. ok
8. ok
9. Sentence is contridictory, do you understand why we are a gun culture?
10. No problem, but you might want to get the rest of left on board and put and end to the war on religion.

Pay your own way. Do not have children that you can not afford, do not expect others to feed, cloth, house, and pay for medical care of you or your children. This is your responsibility.

I had the children I could afford to have and raise. It really is that simple. I raised mine sometimes working more than one job to do so. If you have them then you must be responsible for them.

40. Sure all of this is true...BS!!!!!

I earn my money and pay the taxes on it that I'm supposed to. If I earn money from investing my money I pay taxes on all money that is earned as I'm supposed to.

Past that point my money is my business and none of any other person... I will spend is as I see fit, save it if I choose or leave it to anyone I choose to.

None of that is anything that any other person should have anything to say about.

But the liberals think they have some right to tell me what I have to do with my money...

BS, take that thought and get it out of the sunshine......

If you need money get a job,,,, Just like I did..... but keep your mouth and hour hands off of what I have earned and already paid taxes on.
