Remember how we all voted to make Gay Marriage legal?

Oh that's right, there was no vote.

Instead, 5 Druids in Black Robes read some chicken entrails and declared that the Founding Fathers secretly hid Gay Marriage in the Constitution 230 years ago.

1. I agree with you.

However it would never have gotten that far if the right at the state levels would have led the way in ensuring gay couple had the same rights as married couples. For instance, a gay parter could be prevented seeing the other parter while dying in a hospital if the victim's parents said so. IMO that stuff is wrong.

2. I would absolutely vote Republican if not for the homophobia, misogyny, and hysteria over abortion.

Case in point: Here you are, on a Sunday afternoon, pulling your pants down and exposing your homophobia for no reason at all other than you must be literally consumed by it. What... you were just sitting there enjoying the day and thought to yourself "Damn. I need to get online and make damn sure everyone knows I'm anti-gay, because if I go more than a few hours without doing it, they might think I'm PRO-HOMOSEXUALITY!"?

Out of the fucking blue, here you are with an armload full of homophobia. No reason, you just needed to put it out there.

Make no mistake, time will leave your outdated fears and beliefs behind.

And if not for all that bullshit, I'd be a dyed-in-the-wool Republican. I believe in fiscal conservatism. I believe in a small federal government. I believe in enforcing immigration laws. Why, if not for the fucked up and out of date social agenda people like you and your other DI friends promulgate, the Republican Party might even get some of my money. No great loss though; this way I don't have to contribute to either party and have more money for enjoyment and entertainment.

and pointing out how it came about equate to homophobia?

There could be no other explanation for starting a thread about gay marriage.

bothers me.

So, there's that...

if that were the case. Seems to me the OP is bothered by the how.

I doubt you know what anyone is thinking.

What kind of person posts a three lengthy paragraph guess?

8. Not in our lifetime. But there will come a day when younger generations won't bat an eye over it.

One day I'm sure there will be birth control that can be switched on and off like a light switch. After that abortion will only be necessary in the case of rape, incest, or health of the mother.

I abhor abortion. But I don't consider it my job to judge. I consider it a woman's right to choose. It's not my job to prevent sin, nor is it my job to punish sinners. That's the job waaaaay over my paygrade.

12. It may be her body

But the human life (sperm) came from the father.

Ever look at those little buggars swimming around under a microscope?

The father has no say? All the mother contributes is an egg, or home, for the sperm to grow as a human being.

25. The male donates one sperm and theoretically, can walk away at that point.

Female recipient of said sperm donates the egg, 9 months gestation and the labor and delivery involved with the birth. The female could, conceivably, turn the child rearing over to another at that point, but more often than not, devotes 18 years or longer to performing that task. The male may participate in the child rearing, but it has traditionally been the responsibility of the female.

If you need more info, you'll have to buy the book.

35. That's it?

I thought you were going to contribute some earth-shattering biological revelation!

The male donates millions of sperm. Only (usually) one gets the honor of finding a home where it can grow into a human being.

So you think the male plays a minor role, huh? Sorry, biology begs to differ with you.

It's a lot more than just "her body."

Peach seeds will poison you if you eat them. Also dogs should not eat fresh grapes for the same reason.

36. You'll be fine.. The Presidents Of The United States say so

Peach pits, if ingested in large enough quantities, can poison and even kill humans. However, the pits have to be chewed or ground up to produce cyanide in the body. Accidental cyanide poisoning from ingesting fruit seeds or pits is extremely rare.

at least have a legal definition of what it is. Personally, I don't see why same-sex couples should be treated any differently.

26. I have made such arguments in the past. Separate marrage, which is religious, from the legal part

People can do what they want in whatever their religious affiliation is and call it marriage. People can form legal partnerships without the benefit of a any ceremony. One is civil, one is religious. France does a fairly decent job of that.

What is the REAL reason that government has to recognize unions at all? I suspect it mostly has to do with tax nonsense, which should be completely done away with.

38. To some degree

I agree with you. Marriage has always been under the purview of the state. With the exception of the loving decision of course. For the Supreme Court to claim that the 14th amendment was meant to extend equal protection to homosexuals right to marriage is laughable.

The correct decision, in my opinion, would have been to say that the power to set the qualifications for marriage is reserved to the states. Therefore any state that had passed same sex marriage laws through their legislature would be valid. I think at the time this was 6-8 states. And due to the full faith and credit clause all states would have to recognize these marriages.

Then if the American people didn't like this set up they could petition their government to propose a constitutional amendment giving same sex couples the right to marry in all states in America.

But we don't pass constitutional amendments anymore to change the constitution, we let nine unelected judges do it now.
