Why are Libs suddenly interested in America using American made products?

Prior to Donald Trump becoming President the left didn't seem to give a shit about where the steel for US pipelines came from. Now that Donald Trump is President of the United States and he had the balls to say that we should use American products when building American projects the left can't contain their ignorance. All of a sudden the fact that Trump's golf shirts and ties were made overseas is a huge deal.

All of a sudden we should ship back hundreds of millions of dollars of pipe because a deal that was signed long before he became President didn't use US steel.

Had President Obama stood up for this country and American workers he would have required that the pipeline be built with US steel. I don't recall him ever getting behind a podium and calling for that, all I remember was him doing everything he could to prevent the pipeline from being built in the first place which screwed American workers over.

Do you liberals really think anyone buys your bullshit?

They really hate that he won and surprised them all. This pipeline thing is something they cling to. They have little else.

4. National Security committee is currently reviewing the Chinese steel import situation.

By relying on imported Chinese steel leaves the US in a vulnerable position if it doesn`t have it`s own manufacturing base up and running should there be an international conflict.

Looks like the coal and steel industry might be resurrected after all.

101. A little not so "Common" "Common Sense"

first of all if you are discussing Kreystone pipeline the steel for that project was sourced years ago long before construction began and Trump had no say over where it came from. I have written other posts on this, including data on where the steel did some from. 50% of it was sourced in North America.

As far as the Steel industry resurgence in the US even if that comes to pass people need to understand it is not the job creation panacea they are thinking of.

An example:

In 1979 J&L Steel Aliquippa works employed just over 10,000 people and the A4 Coke Battery produced just over 3,000,000 tons of steel. That does not include numbers for rod&wire, blast furnace round mill etc.

Today a modern Steel Mill producing the same amount of steel would employ somewhere between 1500 and 3000 people and that number is trending down every year. Not too mention we are very close to replacing Coal with Natural Gas for the coking process.

So forget whether you are a Liberal or a Conservative the actual problem is that labor when in surplus does not command higher wages so since, we as a species, on a global basis have a surplus of labor, and populations who want to pay less and less for products how do we expect the center to hold without some sort of radical change in human behavior?

The problem actually is not one of creating more jobs it is one of higher production with less people due to efficiency and automation. The problem is how to get less people without doing something horrifying because if we continue down the road of automation and efficiency we literally cannot create enough jobs to keep even 50% of the population employed....ooh what a pickle that is!

He's the only politician who has openly supported the American worker in decades and the left HATES him for it. He's doing what they one dream they could. The left buys votes with free shit bought with tax dollars and Trump is buying support with American jobs and American opportunity.

105. He could not

and he should not have said it but the fact is for all the dumb asses out here both left and right the steel for pipeline had been sourced and contracted for when Obama was in office. That is how INFRASTRUCTURE projects of this magnitude work. for those who do not know.

Directly from Trans Canada and the Keystone project page:

"We estimate 821,000 tons of high strength line pipe will be used on the project in Canada and the U.S. TransCanada has estimated it will use 660,000 tons of steel for the U.S. portion of the Keystone XL pipeline. The following are the line pipe mills who are manufacturing the pipe:

Welspun - Little Rock, Arkansas, USA 332,800 tons 50%
Evraz – Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada 156,266 tons 24%
ILVA – Italy 103,147 tons 16%
Welspun - India 69,457 tons 10%

And that based on the latest audits of the books for the pipeline is what happened.

Next?

63. Probably because I didn't think he was doing nothing for the working man...

Bethlehem, and others, built ships to keep the mills working-- little else uses steel like a large ship. But, since the US maritime industry became almost invisible, shipbuilding became limited to Navy and Coast Guard work, and emergency repair work. Bridges, skyscrapers, etc use a lot, but not enough top keep all the mills open. Especially the ancient ones like Bethlehem. Remember that after WWII Europe and Japan were rebuilding with new, efficient millworks while we kept using the old crap we had.

Now, while I favor treating the working stiff well, and in theory support unions, it kinda got out of hand for a while. Not just wages, but work rules were getting insane. One reason why Korea started building the world's ships was that if an American welder ran into a plate with a spur on it, he had to call the cutting guy and wait for him to show up and finish. A Korean welder just picked up a cutting torch and saved half a shift. A Korean yard would give you a firm date to lay the keel, and a launch date. An American yard gives you maybes and you're on your own.

Obama didn't do anything spectacular for the worker, but he also didn't waste time on bullshit by loosening regulations so 3 more coal miners could get work poisoning the local rivers. Our jobs are not going to China so much as they are being eliminated by technology and robots. Toyota has a factory where they save a fortune on lighting because robots completely build the cars, and our car factories are getting there. Same with refrigerators and water heaters.

Now, if you really, really want to do something for employees of those companies reducing payroll, encourage them to give some of the profits back to the remaining employees instead of insider stock deals for management.

And remember that tax cuts alone never go to increased production. They go to profits and production is increased by demand.

65. The US corporate tax rate is around 35%, which is high, but...

hardly any of them pay that. Besides, there's trillions in US owned assets out there, and it would be impossible to bring even a part of that back.

And there are other advantages to having overseas operations-- markets being a big one. Why make stuff here and ship it there when you can make it there?

And, just so you know, is the ONLY corporate rate in this country.

78. What? I can't have dinner? I'm supposed to sit on this computer at your beck and call...

answer your most trivial questions?

But, since you ask...

http://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-16-363

What GAO Found
In each year from 2006 to 2012, at least two-thirds of all active corporations had no federal income tax liability. Larger corporations were more likely to owe tax. Among large corporations (generally those with at least $10 million in assets) less than half—42.3 percent—paid no federal income tax in 2012. Of those large corporations whose financial statements reported a profit, 19.5 percent paid no federal income tax that year. Reasons why even profitable corporations may have paid no federal tax in a given year include the use of tax deductions for losses carried forward from prior years and tax incentives, such as depreciation allowances that are more generous in the federal tax code than those allowed for financial accounting purposes. Corporations that did have a federal corporate income tax liability for tax year 2012 owed $267.5 billion.

I suggest you read the whole article.

And...

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/markets/2016/03/07/27-giant-profitable-companies-paid-no-taxes/81399094/

There are 27 companies in the Standard & Poor's 500, including telecom firm Level 3 Communications (LVLT), airline United Continental (UAL) and automaker General Motors (GM), that reported paying no income tax expense in 2015 despite reporting pre-tax profits, according to a USA TODAY analysis of data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Only profitable firms were included in the analysis since firms that lost money - like many energy companies - wouldn't be expected to pay taxes.

And there is oh, so much more, but you can find it yourself.

87. Thats not true.

Obama did ZILCH for working people.

Thats not true.

Shovel ready jobs were huge for the working class.

He lessened their personal liberty by making a law that says they have to contract with a private corporations (lefty hates big corporate, except when lefty loves big corporate). What did they need their personal liberty for anyway, right?

He gave many of them a new monthly bill which they can't afford, which will go up and up and up until the whole thing explodes, and most will get nothing for their money. I'm sure they didn't need it anyway.

He got between them and their doctors.

He lied to them about them and their doctors.

I'm sure if we sat and thought about it, we could come up with a huge list of things he did to...err I mean for, the working class.

then again if he built a hotel today you would cry about it being a conflict of interest and the left would call for the world to boycott it even if it were built with 100% American materials. He's said thousands of times that it's time for us to focus on America and American workers. That includes himself, he hasn't lied one bit about his past, in fact he's admitted that he took advantage of the current system and he wants to change it.

Just saying......Bernie Sanders is a liberal, and he has been staunchly for American goods, American manufacturing, etc. his whole career.

And he ran on it during his run for the presidential nomination.

And he was supported by millions of liberal voters.

So, I don't think the idea that liberals are suddenly interested in America using American made products holds up.

Right now that bastard is speaking up for the American worker and people care. Right now Donald Trump is representing the American worker more than any labor union has done in the last decade.

While Bernie Sanders sits in his 3rd beach house sipping on some cold beverage President Trump is working to help Americans.

36. President Trump has been on a pro-American pep rally for weeks now, he was at Snap-On

yesterday talking about buying American and hiring American. He's clearly taken a step or 2 in the right direction when it comes to illegal immigration because the illegals haven't stopped crying yet and dems hate him for it, that directly helps Americans in fields like construction which have been overrun by illegal workers. He's been on TV weekly talking to business owners about buying American and keeping jobs here.

If Bernie Sanders wanted to help the American worker then he should love some of the things Donald Trump has done so far.

104. Aside from your comment about marrying foreign, everything else is a valid conversation and I'd love

to address it all. Marrying foreign has nothing to do with business or this country and that was nothing more than a backhanded jab at the man and his wife.

We hired a guy who for decades has been a private businessman, has been wildly successful and has build hundreds of successful businesses in this country following it's current laws and taking advantage of it's current loopholes. He's done what just about every other businessman in the country has done to make a profit, that's manufacture cheaper overseas, hire cheaper from overseas and buy materials cheaper from overseas. For decades our politicians have made it very difficult for Americans to compete with the cheaper prices overseas and Donald Trump knows that.

He has openly admitted that he took advantage of the system by legally doing what he could to make a dollar, as a businessman that's smart and perfectly acceptable. You may not like him and the SJWs might call him the devil but he did what he could legally to make a buck. He is now calling out these loopholes, these unfair trade deals and these screwed up agreements that past government officials have made to benefit themselves and their rich friends.

I don't agree with everything he's done by a long shot but I do agree with a lot of things he's doing and I certainly agree with choosing him over our other option.
