Hurricane Telethon Gets Political Right At The Start

Singer Stevie Wonder kicked off Tuesday’s star studded Hand In Hand telethon to raise money for hurricane recovery by getting political. Wonder started the show by saying, “Anyone who believes that there’s no such thing as global warming must be blind or unintelligent.”

{VIDEO}

The Hand In Hand telethon was run on every broadcast network to benefit victims of hurricanes Harvey, which devastated the Houston area, and Irma, which slammed Florida over the weekend. The event mirrors past telethons for natural disasters.

The 2005 telethon to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina became known for Kanye West’s infamous anti-President George W. Bush comments. “George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” West said as a stunned Mike Meyers looked on.

1. I'm surprised he wasn't the only one

Liberal entertainers don't realize their alienating 1/2 of the US with statements like this, and it will affect donations to this drive.

3. I did a donation through Palmetto State Armorys website of all places

I've avoided the Red Cross since 9/11 and tried using local charities when I could

PSA had something set up and I was buying something there anyway

13. The Katrina fundraiser did fine

Even after Kanye said "George Bush hates black people". History doesn't support your claim.

4. No real opinion on the politics part.

But, I am surprised he is still with us. I could have sworn he died years ago.

Actually kind of happy with this news.

22. Good stuff!!

I just thought of him as being much older when he was making hits in the 80s. Everyone over 30 looked really old to me back then though.

5. Climate change shouldn't be political. It affects us all, regardless of party affiliation.

Not to mention, even entertainers are allowed to voice their opinions.

6. "Climate change" is an invention to keep

government "scientists" funded.

PERIOD.

If a hurricane forms and meanders in the Atlantic without making landfall, it doesn't make news.

If a hurricane forms and makes landfall, suddenly it's "our" fault.

The U.S. went 142 months without a major hurricane.

Now, "all of a sudden", we have had two in the same year and it's global warming.

"mmgw" is a hoax.

Have we not had two hurricanes in the same year during the last 3 or 4 billion years?

8. I'm not going to argue climate change with you.

Belief can't be forced. If the scientific evidence doesn’t convince you, there is nothing I can say that will change your mind.

Good, because I'm going to bed.

p.s. There IS no "scientific evidence".

Nighty night.

14. Did you, though? I think not.

I like lots of entertainers, regardless of their political leanings or beliefs. It's just part of being in a country where we're all not lil @RIGHTY or @LEFTY robots.

Stevie will be fine without you.
