People who kneel for the Anthem are literally pissing on dead soldiers.

There's no other way to put it.

Where did anyone get the idea that the national anthem was about dead soldiers?

Rockets and bombs, perhaps.

6. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Are we supposed to believe that? Believe that it's the guy's grandfather and he supports those protesting America, and isn't just weeding the garden?

This is the internet. You know, where much that is fraudulent is put.

I don't believe it.

If you don't like it, IT'S FAKE!
Of course, this particular incident has been widely reported, but fuck that. YOU DON"T LIKE IT!
I wish I could be that intellectually lazy.
Life would be so easy.

14. They have the right to protest on their own time. ...

Football players are basically paid entertainers. When they are in uniform and on the field they should realize their job to simply to play football. Mixing politcs with football could effect the profit margin of their team and in the end lead to reduced salaries in the future. Most have attended college at one time and should be able to express their opinion off the field.

I watch entertainers to escape the reality of the world we live in. I really don't care what their political views are as long as they enable me a couple of hours of escapism. If I want to watch a program about politics I turn on CNN. MSNBC, Fox News or OAN (One American News). I will admit that I am a news addict and football offers me the opportunity to escape that addiction and take a break for a short period of time. If a professional football player wants to expess his views on the state of our nation he might consider using one of those channels to do so. That wouldn't bother me in the least.

25. You are very concerned about rich team owners, aren't you?

"They have the right to protest on their own time."

Actually, they have the right to protest anywhere and anytime they want, as long as they are not breaking a valid law or interfering with someone's property rights in so doing.

Surely the team owners can look out for their own interests in this matter. If they believe their economic interests are being harmed, they have clauses in their player contracts they can invoke, if they so choose, I expect.

And you can change the channel! And/or voice your disaffection to the team owners and the sponsors.

And yes, exactly the same applies to players wearing Confederate flag patches, just for instance.

32. if as you say the players have the right to protest anywhere they want ...

the owners have the right to fire or fine them.

Let's suspose that the local anchors on your TV news decided on their own to kneel to support some controversial cause prior to delivering the news. Or perhaps the cameramen working for a network spots program decided to turn their cameras off during the playing of the national anthem, Their employers could fire them or dock their pay.

When I worked for a major corporation before I retired we were told that if we engaged in activities off work that might negatively influence the reputation of the company we cold be fired.

Of course if an NFL owner did punish the members of his football team for kneeling during the national anthem the players could go to the players union and dispute that action. It might possibly end up in court.

NFL player loses another endorsement over anthem protest
By KATE GIBSON MONEYWATCH September 12, 2016, 5:34 PM

The Denver Broncos’ Brandon Marshall has lost a second endorsement in less than a week over his decision to join his college teammate Colin Kaepernick in kneeling for the national anthem ahead of his team’s season-opener.

CenturyLink said on Monday that the broadband provider is “politely terminating” its agreement with Marshall due to his action last Thursday during the anthem.

The company’s move to cut its ties with the player came just over a month after announcing a sponsorship deal with the linebacker and two other professional football players, Stefon Diggs, a wide receiver with the Minnesota Vikings, and Luke Wilson, a tight end with the Seattle Seahawks.

All three players had agreed to pitch CenturyLink’s interactive TV services in local television and radio commercials, as well as in online, print and social media promotions.

33. Um, duh.

"if as you say the players have the right to protest anywhere they want ...
the owners have the right to fire or fine them."

Exactly what did you imagine I said?

You could have saved yourself a lot of time by just paying attention.

But here, I'll help you out. Perhaps it was buried too deep in my 5 sentences:

If they believe their economic interests are being harmed, they have clauses in their player contracts they can invoke, if they so choose, I expect.

See it now?

35. Please don't consider a career in teaching.

If the football players didn't have a right to kneel as they have, they'd be facing criminal charges.

The right to freedom of speech operates in the relationship between individual and state.

The right to engage in certain acts in the course of employment, including speech, is a matter between employee and employer. "Freedom of speech" does not apply there.

These individuals have the right to express their opinions.

Their employers have the right to fire them if what they did was contrary to their contracts.

As I said:

If they believe their economic interests are being harmed, they have clauses in their player contracts they can invoke, if they so choose, I expect.

They're not heroes. They got themselves killed. I like live soldiers.
