This is the sort of racist trash that makes DU the site it is

malaise

What the world wants to know - who authorized the United States to decide the capitol of Israel?

I am so sick of this shit.

TreasonousBastard

1. We didn't-- Israel did. We're just one of the very few agreeing with them.

That's not entirely true. Most countries recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, it's just that everyone kept their embassies in Tel Aviv.

malaise

2. Nothing has changed since the white man decided he was superior to all others and gave himself the right to kill, enslave, loot and plunder others in the name of 'civilization' - talk about an inversion of reality. Ask the indigenous people's of our planet any and everywhere.

There are days I want to jump off this planet.

US policies have encouraged Israel for way too long.

2. Obama quote

"Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided. I have no illusions that this will be easy."

4. Obama was your typical politician. ...

He made all sorts of promises that he had no intention of ever keeping.

Trump is not a politician. If he makes a promise while campaigning he tries to deliver on it. Admittedly this is not always the case but he does a far better job of trying to live up to his promises than any other politician I can think of.

9. I assume you are talking about the six month waiver on moving the embassy. ..

As I understand it any move of the embassy will not happen overnight. I have heard the plan is first to buy the land somewhere in Jerusalem and then to build the new embassy.

Be realistic. Moving an embassy is not like loading your furniture into a U-haul truck and moving to a new apartment.

A day later, no 'Jerusalem, Israel,' on US government maps

THE U.S. EMBASSY

Trump has directed the State Department to begin the process of moving the embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv. That move won't happen overnight.

The building will remain in Tel Aviv for the foreseeable future, U.S. officials say, adding that it's unlikely any Jerusalem embassy will be opened before the end of Trump's first term.

Although Trump ordered planning to begin immediately, officials say it will take a minimum of three to four years to design and build a new facility and then actually relocate the embassy.

In some cases, the process of moving an embassy takes even longer. Perhaps tellingly, Trump on Wednesday signed without fanfare a waiver to the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act that delays any move by another six months. Unless the law is changed, Trump will have to continue to sign waivers until the new facility is ready. Otherwise, the State Department risks losing significant funding.

12. Interesting. I wasn't aware of that. ...

Perhaps Trump is planning to use the location of the embassy as a bargaining chip in future peace negotiations.

In passing I wonder what was going on in our Cuban embassy that has caused illness.

15. It was a huge bare field

Some articles here...some things had changed that I did not realize

https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/1.758959

Then there is this piece, that contradicts it to some extent.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/12/07/former-british-army-barracks-likely-house-us-embassy-jerusalem/

This article discusses to some extent the location I know about https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2017/12/07/where-would-a-u-s-embassy-in-jerusalem-actually-go/?utm_term=.909808aafd77

16. It looks more complicated than many think. ...

Unfortunately since two of the articles were hidden behind pay walls I didn't get to read them.

Perhaps major newspapers need to join together and offer a subscription plan to all for a reasonable price. I have no desire to have 20 different newspaper accounts and while I could possibly bypass the paywall I prefer to simply boycot the newspaper.

Of course, trump has almost fixed that error but I didn't see the DUMMIES caring when obama pulled that maneuver. The primates should be interred in the zoo and never let out into Gen pop.
