Powerball winner can stay anonymous, judge rules

http://money.cnn.com/2018/03/12/news/powerball-winner-anonymous/index.html

____

A Powerball winner is allowed to stay anonymous while collecting her $560 million jackpot, a New Hampshire judge ruled on Monday.

The winner sued the New Hampshire Lottery last month under the name of Jane Doe, in a bid to collect the winnings through a trust to protect her anonymity.

The lawsuit challenges the New Hampshire Lottery's rule that she must identify herself in order to collect her money. A judge in the New Hampshire Superior Court ruled in her favor, according to her lawyer, William Shaheen.

"If I told you she was ecstatic it would be an understatement," Shaheen said in an email to CNNMoney. "We are very pleased with the judge's order."

1. Good for her...

I'd want to remain anonymous too.

2. I agree completely.

On the other hand, if all winners remain anonymous, people could lose confidence that prizes were actually being paid.

3. I'm quite sure

There will always be some people who want to "bask in the limelight", so to speak particularly when the #1 ambition of the youngest generation coming up is not to necessarily achieve anything other than "being famous".

5. It's a sad commentary

When some of our "biggest" media stars have done absolutely nothing for their notoriety other than have a fat ass and leak a dick-sucking video.

7. How can something be graphic

When no graphics were posted?

If language were a bar here, 90% of everyone would get bounced.

I generally don't get involved in stupid games.

10. Don't know.

I read your post before I was called for jury duty for it and saw nothing wrong with it. It's not like you posted or linked to porn.
I just wondered who you were talking about.

16. I can think of two women who qualify

Both have had "reality" TV shows.

FWIW, I used coarse language because I see it as coarse behavior unworthy of good characterization.

18. I think that's what Q was trying to convey,

ergo the chuckle smiley in the post.

Over half the juries I'm on are the result of an absolute frivolous alert, and some just cuz the alerter does not understand the (lack of) relation to the deifned abuse and the post.

OH - doesn't need to be a picture/image - according to Merriam-Webster

3 usually graphic
a : marked by clear lifelike or vividly realistic description
b : vividly or plainly shown or described a graphic sex scene

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/graphic

I mean - I can say that the boy and the girl had sex, made love, fucked - whatever,

that ain't graphic . . . .

BUT

If I start to describe what part went where with whom and numerous adverbs and adjectives,

THAT's getting "graphic"

19. Perhaps

I refer you to the replies I made as to why I chose the language I did, and it was a very deliberate choice.

15. I was on the jury for it

and voted not to hide.

It's stupid and nasty, but so much other stuff that gets posted is just as bad.

17. Would you not agree

That our "pop culture" has become just that: stupid, nasty, crass, and generally base? I won't dignify it or give it legitimacy with polite euphemistic language or terms.
