"get the red out (12,625 posts)

159. I am ashamed to be a white person

I got a DNA test hoping something better might be in there but it came out as basically the standard Appalachian blend. I am serious when I say I was disappointed. I never knew that the majority of white people in this country were literally evil until Trump, I have been sheltered and blind."

7. DU is the DNC's #1 propaganda test site

They float all their ideas there to see which ones will resonate with Ds. It is the testing ground for the DNC, therefore has a lot to do with current politics.

I don't personally care about any of the people there.

8. If you're right, what they do NOT understand is that their cult is leading them by the nose.

All they're doing is dancing around a bunch of stupid, emotionally unstable people. DU is not at all representative of liberals, liberalism the left, progressives or anything else, they are the most ridiculously unwholesome and unhealthy echo-chamber imaginable. They are only capable of believing certain kinds of thing.

It's a great deal like paranoid schizophrenia.

The DNC operatives do not have enough attention to spend on gaining the trust of people who do not engage with them. The lazy, crack-addled nonsense they try to spin around on DU, if you're right, is indicative of their total failure to understand how people interact with the Internet in general, let alone the political landscape.

9. I'm correct, it's the DNC's site, not a liberal website.

Its owner, and DI's, was a consultant for Hillary for years. They are DNC, third-way propaganda testing sites. Just like Hillary Inc, they think of people as masses to be manipulated by fake polls, weaponized propaganda and hate-speech fueled wedge issues.

The purpose of propaganda is to create emotional rather than rational thought. DU exists only to create emotional outrage, it is the very definition of propaganda.

10. I agree with you entirely... but... I would also add...

The problem with running that kind of operation is that it carries a hypnotic power over the propaganda merchants as well. The simple consequence of receiving any kind of response to manipulative posting, like the kind of thing your describing, generates positive emotion in the manipulator as well. It's exactly like a drug.

Essentially they're carving out a conversation area where they don't only train their puppets to believe only the kinds of thing they want them to believe, they are also, unconsciously training *themselves* only to have the capacity to believe certain kinds of thing. Please note, I specifically use the word "capacity", not "tendency".

They are actually re-wiring themselves into becoming emo-spam machines. They are training themselves to be unable to speak or interact with other people in ways that aren't manipulative.

They are programming themselves into becoming incapable of viewing anything dispassionately, as if there exists any analysis vector that's usable as a way establishing an objective truth. They can only analyse things in ways that make them feel "horror". They are training themselves to be incapable of believing anything that isn't scary, or rage-inducing, or depressing.

They are *actually losing the ability to think*. Not the site users, the site manipulators. They are constantly seeking social feedback on their strategies, but they've crafted a space where it's only people who enjoy having nasty feelings and thinking nasty things who talk to them, so they *have* to propagate nasty ideas in order to carry on manipulating them because that's the only way they get to interact with their test subjects. It's a self-reinforcing system. It's a huge cognitive feedback loop.

The propagandist eventually drives himself mad by surrounding himself only with reflections of his own terror.

It wasn't until it got to the stage of "manspreading" that I realised how bad it had got. Persuading people to have nasty feelings about *the way someone sits on public transport*... we need a political movement, apparently to help women to ask people to shift up a bit on the bus... FFS...

That moment wasn't exactly "the end" for me, it wasn't that sudden, but a long, slow realisation that they'd all gone completely gaga and no-one was allowed to say so. It took several months. It was roundabout that time all the weird board-managing and perception managing started. The Hillary campaign was the worst period. It was just dreadful.

But when I left, I realised how horribly addictive it had become. I would wake up in the morning feeling strange because I hadn't seen anything on DU. I was so geared up and ready to lose my temper on a message board for so long, every morning, that I had to open it up and look at it, repeatedly, and *make* myself not post anything to undo the sense of attachment. It's that sickly and neurotic.

Yes, I was powerfully infected. It's an extremely unpleasant and ugly place.

But I got better.
