Anger and Disgust as Trump Blows Up NATO Summit

He's doing exactly what the russian trolls who elected him demanded. He's Heath Ledger's joker, but without the operational acumen.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/anger-and-disgust-as-trump-blows-up-nato-summit

"PARIS — The explosion was almost instantaneous—over breakfast, no less—at the beginning of this year’s NATO summit in Brussels. With cameras switched on, and no question they were recording, Donald Trump told his Atlantic Alliance counterparts that Germany is “totally controlled by Russia.” Berlin buys from Moscow more and more of the natural gas it uses. So, in one of his trademark versions of common sense, which commonly ignores basic history and fundamental facts, he asked why the U.S. should spend a lot of money to defend Germany from Russia if Germany was dependent on Russia for energy. Trump incorrectly inflated Germany’s reliance on Russian energy to convey, yet again, a picture of NATO as a protection racket and the U.S. demanding its envelope of cash be heavier.

What was surprising here to many Europeans was not the issue of Germany’s energy supplies or defense budget, which ought to be discussed, but the way it was raised, quite consciously, to be as rude and offensive as possible to America’s richest and most powerful ally on the continent. This after Trump turned the meeting last month in Canada of the G7 most economically advanced democracies into an acrimonious debacle."

I suggest Portland Oregon. Stop a rando on the street and tell them to check their privilege.

2. Well, I think many people miss the point of President Trump's behavior

He was elected to disrupt the Old Order, and one hoped, to overthrow it entirely.

To bring down a structure that didn't work--governmental bureaucracy, NATO, American-China relations, whatnot--and replace it with something that might work better.

I think it's great that he's wiling to do this, tweak the noses and pinch the cheeks of people and things that have been around too long, that have outgrown any reason for their existence.

28. ".....He's revealing the status quo - and the status quo doesn't like it....."

Being a conventional Republican, originally I'd supported just about all the other candidates, thinking Trump was too outre to win, but ultimately I was committed to voting for whoever the Republican candidate was, given the sorry field the other side was proposing.

And so when Trump, originally probably my tenth choice, got the nomination, I came on board, enthusiastically.

The main reason I voted for him was that I hoped he'd trash the Establishment, bring the curtain down on the Age of Aquarius, kick the old hippies in the teeth, bring in a new order of things.

I been disappointed only in that he's not moving the revolution along fast enough; heads need to roll, and the tumbrils are still in the garage.

which is why so many of them live at the DUmp.

pays their way. I see no problem with each country contributing the same percentage of GDP for defense.

Why are we still paying the most to defend them, while they enrich those we are defending them against?

Poland wants an armored division and Merkel is worried that we may redeploy US forces from Germany to Poland, we should.

That is tens of billions Germany will loose out of their economy not to mention then they have to pay to refurbish their entire military and keep up the spending to make it combat ready.

40. Got to start somewhere.

The MIC is way way too large. Perhaps our strict Constitutionalist friends will see to it. The defense of the Nation is strictly expressed as a necessity. Apart from treaty obligations with allies, there is no call to play policeman for the world.

That is trump's point with NATO, the US is an ally, not the sole defender to Europe or else where, as such the US should not take on the burden. I'm sure they agree with trump's correction to the existing world order.

36. So we should let germany make a $12 billion dollar deal with Putin???

When They have only 100 combat ready tanks? Pay less than 1.3% of GDP to defend their own nation?

They get to be wonderful socialist nations because they have been residing with unfair tariffs against our goods and the US freighting most of the bill for NATO. I am glad Trump is calling them out!

I don't care that he is not a politician and doesn't speak in political BS like all others have done in the past! Especially Lurch Kerry and Lying Hillary!

If they are our allies- then let them be allies and stop using our generosity to enrich their nations at our expense!
