Update on the 60 Separate Defamation Lawsuits Against the SPLC Under Consideration

Will the SPLC go bankrupt? This story makes me smile.

"Leaders of Christian organizations the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) unfairly labels as "hate groups" told PJ Media that a massive legal onslaught is headed toward the SPLC — and it could involve as many as sixty separate lawsuits in different states around the country. Rather than one big defamation lawsuit, the left-wing attack dog will face a scattershot approach.

"What we're considering is not a class-action lawsuit," Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, a Christian nonprofit branded a "hate group" by the SPLC and currently suing the charity navigation site GuideStar, told PJ Media on Monday. "These are individual lawsuits that we're looking at, not class action."

He explained that the roughly 60 organizations considering the suit intend to "make the SPLC defend itself all over the country."

"The people we're talking to are looking at individual lawsuits — could be up to sixty but definitely quite a number of cases," Staver explained."

3. Expect the SPLC to search for a Leftist judge who would combine all the suits into one.. then...

… find against the combined suit...

4. As a mainstream Christian, I'm proud of the Southern Poverty Law Centre for going after these groups

These hateful hate groups who've stolen Jesus and made Him into something he's not. Jesus is not far-right wing. Jesus does not hate the poor. Jesus never "loved the B-1 bomber". Jesus never promoted "the prosperity gospel". Jesus was not a multimillionaire televangelist.

5. As a mainstream Christian, I'm ashamed of the Southern Poverty Law Center

for labeling their ideological opponents as "hate groups" in an attempt to drive them from the public forum.

The SPLC has stated repeatedly that their goal is to "destroy these groups politically". All for having a different opinion. Floyd Lee Corkins used their classification of the Family Research Council as a "Hate Group" as justification for going there with a gun and a bag of Chick Fil A sandwiches in order to shoot a bunch of people and shove sandwiches in their mouths.

That's what happens when you try to reduce opposing voices to "hate groups".

6. A nationwide campaign to swamp Southern Poverty Law with 60+ lawsuits will backfire.

The same way the organized campaign to ban NavyBrat and liberalguy here for Free Speech While Liberal has backfired.

7. That remains to be seen, Will.

The SPLC decided to cross the Rubicon when they chose to label groups with opposing viewpoints as "Hate Groups" in order to drive them from the public forum for the offense of Free Speech While Conservative.

They already had to settle after labeling Maajid Nawaz an "Anti-Muslim Extremist".

8. What?

People can think for themselves and the SPLCs mission of labeling everything non leftist as hate has made it as meaningless as what lefty has done to the word "racist".

They thought they were free to slander groups so now let them defend it.

9. I carry no brief for SPLC. I don't blindly support them in all things.

I'm just pleased to see someone standing up to those who would hijack Jesus and turn my religion into a fundamentalist tool.

I believe in separation of Church and State. The world doesn't need another fundamentalist theocracy like Iran.

10. Jesus preached salvation via His work on the cross.

There is no social gospel.

They no more represent who Jesus was then the moonies or any other cult.

11. There is no "prosperity gospel". And no "6,000 year-old dinosaurs". No slavish Biblical literalism.

Fundamentalism is a ca. 120-year-old American tent-meeting phenomenon.

And the desire of some to bring religious tests into politics erodes the boundaries between Church and State.

12. No it does not as the 1st says the government can not abridge any expression of religion.

13. That's why the late Pastor Peter J. Peters is still being broadcast on shortwave.

Calling "American White Men" the "true Israelites" ("Scriptures for America", Laporte, Colorado) is "religious speech" protected by the First Amendment. I still find his rabid anti-Semitism hateful, yet protected.
