Rib Fractures and mortality

CONCLUSION: Elderly patients who sustain blunt chest trauma with rib fxs have twice the mortality and thoracic morbidity of younger patients with similar injuries. For each additional rib fracture in the elderly, mortality increases by 19% and the risk of pneumonia by 27%.

2. Dammmmmmmmmn

She has no business being above ground at this point.

Can we just go ahead and entomb her (for her own safety of course) we can pipe in oxygen and drop food pellets through a tube, which would allow her to stay safe and able to render judgements via Skype until the day finally comes that she doesn't log in and we know it's time to set about looking for her replacement?

3. RGB should have considered retiring during the Obama administration. ...

Obama could have put a much younger liberal justice on the court. Since she didn’t Trump may get the opportunity to put another conservative on the court.

6. Correct. But to claim RBG should have retired to give him another ignores the obvious - he had one

8. The same could be said for all of the other justices.

Its a pointless argument. Yes, anyone on the planet could have resigned at some earlier point, thus vacating their current position sooner. Yes, this includes RBG. I didn't know we needed to point that out.

11. She is half dead, and looks ready

to accidentally drive through the front of a 7-11 because she mixed up the pedals.

24. She has survived cancer twice.

Colon cancer in the late 1980's and pancreatic cancer this century. She also has a stent in her coronary artery. Now a rib fracture at her age? She is not in good health.

20. I'm a former Army field medic and I've suffered broken ribs twice (within months, no less).

It was brutal at 37. I can't imagine how an 85-year old woman who is so infirm she was falling asleep at SOTU speeches years ago is going to endure. Her age group alone has a 1 in 6 chance of contracting pneumonia. Will she die? *Probably* not; but I would be reluctant to give her even odds of returning to work.
