Local Station Says CNN Spiked Segment on Border After Learning Reporter Was Pro-Wall

A San Diego TV station is claiming that CNN reached out to them, asking if they could provide one of their reporters to offer a “local view” from the U.S.-Mexico border — but declined when they discovered that the reporter, and the station at large, are pro-wall.

KUSI — an independent station owned by McKinnon Broadcasting — says that they were contacted by CNN on Thursday morning asking for one of their reporters to offer the perspective from the border. The network, in response, supplied reporter Dan Plante, whom KUSI says has filed “dozens” of reports from the border.

CNN, according to the San Diego station though, abandoned their request.

“We believe CNN declined a report from KUSI because we informed them that most Border Patrol Agents we have spoken to told us the barrier does in fact work,” a report on the station’s website said.

“A sign of the times in this debate,” said KUSI anchor Anna Laurel.

Mediaite has asked CNN for comment and will update this post when we hear back.

Yeah. Acosta will get right back to you. As soon as he manages to stop the massive hemorrhaging from the beatdown he took yesterday.

The shame Jim Acosta experienced yesterday would kill a decent human being.

8. The "spike" has been an important tool of the Dem media for decades...

In journalistic parlance, spiking refers to withholding a story from publication for reasons pertaining to its veracity (whether or not it conforms to the facts) or for political reasons. Spiking usually happens late in the editing process (after the assigning editor has signed off on it). It is only required when a simple edit or questioning the reporter or assigning editor cannot fix the problem.

Reasons for spiking include a clear bias (someone on an opposing side of an issue did not respond, despite the fact that said response is central to the story), a major hole (many, if not most, readers will have a question after reading the story), a sudden change in events (three more people have died, but getting details from officials is impossible on deadline), or suspicions of plagiarism or other ethical violations on the part of the author.

In some cases, a story may be spiked if it is deemed to conflict with the commercial interests of the newspaper's publisher: if, for example, it concerns a company with which the publisher has a close relationship. This is more likely at a local level, where small newspapers are dependent on advertising revenue from businesses such as estate agents and recruitment agencies.

Stories are spiked for other reasons, but the decision is not taken lightly, as a valid, usually detailed explanation will be solicited by those further up the chain of command, often at the behest of the reporter.

9. The media's known and verifiable liberal bias is so well-established now, only idiots dispute it.

Ignoring stories that do not comport to their chosen narrative is just as effective as the dishonest framing of the stories they do cover,

16. The job of the media, "the press", is to be or at least behave objectively.

Those that label themselves "News" ought to act like it.

17. It is not the job of you or me to be impartial.

And focusing on the objectivity of a local San Diego affiliate station, while ignoring the glaring bias of CNN, is not useful.

18. If we had an honest and responsible media ...

the Democrats would be unable to lie and get away with it.

Our wonderful liberal media doesn’t mention the Democrats were for the wall before they were against it and of course the media refuses to report that walls actually work. It doesn’t fit the media’s agenda.
