IRS SAYS IT HAS LOST EMAILS FROM 5 MORE EMPLOYEES

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The IRS says it has lost emails from five more workers who are part of congressional investigations into the treatment of conservative groups that applied for tax exempt status.

The tax agency said in June that it could not locate an untold number of emails to and from Lois Lerner, who headed the IRS division that processes applications for tax-exempt status. The revelation set off a new round of investigations and congressional hearings.

On Friday, the IRS said it has also lost emails from five other employees related to the probe, including two agents who worked in a Cincinnati office processing applications for tax-exempt status.

The agency blamed computer crashes for the lost emails. In a statement, the IRS said it found no evidence that anyone deliberately destroyed evidence.

1. It's the Modern Day Version of

"I don't recall."

Except that no foreign enemies were negotiated with by non-elected persons, no election was fucked with, no drugs or money changed hands.

Better now?

5. Wouldn't that depend on your definition...

...of incompetent?

I mean if your goal, as president, is to have the least transparent administration ever as well as make yourself and you buddies rich, well then, I guess Obama isn't so incompetent after all.

Obama = WORST PRESIDENT EVER

10. Well you got me

But I have trouble giving Obama credit for even being a competent crook. He is so brazen we all know what he is doing.

3. Libs listen up

This is why I don't want more government. Best case scenario they are so incompetent that they can't even run a fucking email system. Worst case scenario what they did was so bad that they feel it is better to appear unable to run a fucking email system than to admit it.

4. BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE IN THE UNIVERSE HAS EVER HAD A HARD DRIVE CRASH

See? I can type all in caps too!

The reason why the GOP is whining about a bunch of unrelated emails is because all evidence that the IRS selectively picked out Republican/Tea-Party groups for special scrutiny has been utterly debunked. Congressional Republicans specifically told investigators to ignore all the scrutiny the IRS gave to Democratic-allied organizations, so as to make it seem as if this was a misuse of government power.

Yawn. Another day. Another Republican lie, along with more whining that their fishing expedition of unrelated data ran up against the limits of technology.

8. What evidence are you refering to?

You've got an IRS employee that took the 5th Amendment. And we have lots and lots of email that mysteriously dissappeared and continues to dissappear.

Is that the evidence you speak of?

Didn't President Nixon destroy some tape recordings, i.e. evidence? He lost his job over that, if I recall reading that correctly.

11. This evidence:

IG: Audit of IRS actions limited to Tea Party groups at GOP request.

and this:

IRS: Republicans’ Own Selective Examination: ‘Targets’

No. The only scandal here is that most of these supposed "non-political" organizations got tax breaks at all, given that they are all 100% political - both Republican and Democratic.
http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-05-16/the-irs-scandal-tempest-and-the-tea-party
Lost amid the inevitable leaks, innuendo, and grandstanding is the bigger scandal—one in which both parties are complicit. While it was politically profiling local antitax groups, the IRS seems to have been largely inert in response to complaints that organizations founded by former top aides of both Obama and George W. Bush have violated their tax-exempt status. In 2012 large tax-exempt groups, including Republican operative Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS and the Obama-affiliated Priorities USA Action, spent hundreds of millions of political-advertising dollars, much of it harvested from secret donors.
..
The problem stems in part from muddled regulatory language. The groups in question are organized under Section 501(c)(4) of the tax code, which permits them to avoid paying taxes on contributions and doesn’t require them to disclose donors. Beginning with a statute enacted in 1913, Congress extended these privileges to nonprofit “civic leagues or organizations … operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare.”

For decades, the IRS interpreted the mandate literally to mean social welfare groups had to be “operated exclusively for purposes beneficial to the community as a whole” and could not get involved in election activities. In recent years, though, the agency significantly loosened its definition to include politically active groups, as long they don’t endorse particular candidates and are not “primarily engaged” in electioneering activities. The IRS invited mischief by failing to define what “primarily engaged” means.

There is indeed crap here that stinks to high heaven. It's when you force an IRS agent to take the 5th in order to avoid losing her life's savings, because she didn't kow-tow to both sides' political corruption and abuse of tax-exemptions that Congress never originally intended.

The original intent of the law was to allow people like the American Cancer Society to lobby for Federal dollars. Not "People for the reelection of Senator Bedfellow" to try to pretend they're some sort of helping widows and orphans charity.

9. No worries, this is just part of the regular outrage cycle.

I think the schedule is for the IRS outrage to continue through next Thursday.

Then, starting next Friday we have 10 days of Benghazi scheduled. There's no more immigration outrage scheduled until after the election, but tentatively it's penciled in for a long run after that; at least through Thanksgiving.

12. Um - that link is to the AP, not FR.

This makes like twelve hard drive crashes since info on those hard drives were inquired about by the House, all around Lois Lerner, who took the fifth twice, and then offered to talk for immunity.

The level of gullibility required to believe this admin continues to rise, as the number of people who believe this admin continues to fall.

And if you click the link you'll see the AP's headline was all caps. I copied and pasted it. Though I understand your need to distract from what was posted by focusing on how it was posted. Distract, deflect...worked so well in 2008.

13. Oh, IRS attorney says they're all backed up, but too hard to find.

Some kind of vast backup system, that evidently is unsearchable and too onerous to be used.

If you believe the bs from the WH, that is.
