US Debt Hits Record Under Trump, Republicans Mum

Washington (AFP) - More massive than the US economy, the national debt hit a new record of $22 trillion under President Donald Trump but Republicans who traditionally rail against debt and deficits have remained mum.

The sum of borrowing to cover chronic deficits as well as growing interest payments, this mountain of debt already stood at $19.95 trillion when Trump entered the White House, reaching the equivalent of US GDP for the first time since World War II.

By comparison, France's debt, which also is about the same as its GDP, amounted to a little more than 2.3 trillion euros (about $2.6 trillion) in late September.

The massive corporate tax cuts that Trump pushed for at the end of 2017, and the surge in spending, especially in defense, have increased the fiscal deficit for the world's largest economy.

5. Well since Nancy controls the money, lets see what she can do.

I’m glad you support a balanced budget amendment like I do.

7. If lefties did that...

"I’m glad you support a balanced budget amendment like I do"

....they'd never be able to roll out AOC's utopian wet dream program, New Green Deal.

Even more reason to pass that balanced budget amendment..............

10. All we'd need to do is cut defense spending in half

And eliminate corporate welfare.

16. AROUND $100 MILLION PER DAY

The MIC is spending around $200 million dollars per DAY chasing "rebels" *(that Obomba funded) around sand dunes 8,000 miles away.

Could half of that - $100 million PER DAY- benefit the US?

20. Uh, cutting $36.5B*/year is only about 20% of the way towards cutting budget deficit in half, where

so where else are you going to cut??

AND no matter how much you cut out of govt spending, just how exactly are you going to pay for the $80-90 trillion GREEN NEW DEAL (to save the earth, it's for the children, etc) that your lefty heroes are supporting???

*($36.5B = your $100M/cut per day X 365 days per year)

13. It would....

...take a helluva lot more than that to rein in the out of control spending. Every department, including the military should be cut 10% for starters. It could be done but, there is no impetus from either side to actually do so. Our government has become a huge lumbering juggernaut that devours tax dollars at an astounding pace. Blaming only one side is partisan bullshit. Every elected rep who sees their primary goal as bringing home the bacon to their constituents is at fault: and that's ALL of them.

Layer upon layer of bureaucracy, bullshit make busy jobs in departments that shouldn't even exist and stupid bill after stupid bill, all slowly draining away tax dollars. Government programs never die; they just continue into perpetuity, even if they're completely ineffective.....because it might be someones job at stake.

Cut it all. Make every department PROVE their annual budgets before they are allotted another dime.

But, that's crazy talk that will never happen.

Mainly because it should.

8. Trump must sign all spending bills or veto them.

Nancy only has the power to pass appropriations legislation.

I still remember when the debt hit 1 trillion. The sky was falling, it was unsustainable everyone said. That was 20 trillion and 40 years ago.

15. Of course Righty is mum

Everyone ought to know by now that any concerns about the budget depend on the party in the White House, which should be renamed Clown Headquarters

Lefty pretends to care now but if the despicable rotten warmonger Hillary was sitting in Clown Headquarters they would be attacking anyone that complained.

It's a circus, no free peanuts

24. Another thing....

...I've noticed is the hypocrisy with regards to cutting the military; versus cutting other departments. I myself am a equal opportunity slasher: slash it ALL.

But for too many, the military seems to be the ONLY target worthy of deep cuts. Any other cuts to any other area are immediately castigated....because some people will lose their jobs. Yet soldiers, sailors and Marines are fair game and apparently, their jobs aren't worthy in the great scheme.

Again, cut it ALL. Including all foreign aid and yes, even Israel.

Slash that shit to the bone and get us back on track!
