Righty to Lefty: Fuck your gun laws

...

Organizers of the pro-gun sanctuaries admit they took the idea from liberals who have created immigration sanctuaries across the United States where local officials defy the Trump administration’s efforts to enforce tougher immigration laws.

Now local conservatives are rebelling against majority Democratic rule in the states. Elected sheriffs and county commissioners say they might allow some people deemed to be threats under “red flag” laws to keep their firearms. In states where the legal age for gun ownership is raised to 21, authorities in some jurisdictions could refuse to confiscate guns from 18- to 20-year-olds.

Resistance to those laws is complicating Democratic efforts to enact gun control in Washington, Oregon, New Mexico and Illinois, even though the party holds the governorship and both chambers of the state legislature in all four states.

The sanctuary movement is exposing the rift between rural and urban America as much as the one between the Republican and Democratic parties, as small, conservative counties push back against statewide edicts passed by big-city politicians.

Backers of the sanctuary movement say they want to take it nationwide. Leaders in all four states where it has taken hold have formed a loose alliance, sometimes sharing strategies or texts of resolutions. They also say they are talking with like-minded activists in California, New York, Iowa and Idaho.

As it grows, the rebellion is setting up a potential clash between state and local officials.

1. It isn't helping the gun grabber cause that law enforcement officials are refusing to go along.

https://lidblog.com/maryland-sheriffs-gun-law/

In true blue Maryland they aren't going to enforce a new registration law. How to they expect to get the job done if the cops won't do it?

6. The idea of seceding from Maryland is very popular in the panhandle.

Annapolis is none too popular in places like Cumberland.

8. This appears to have started in CO with their ill-advised "magazine ban".

To avoid having to "buy back" magazines that were suddenly made illegal, the decided to grandfather them in. Problem was, there's no way to tell a legal pre-ban magazine from an illegal post ban one, so all someone had to say was "I've had that since before the law changed".

Can't sell them in CO, but plenty of surrounding states sell them all day long.

Once and for all, maybe I look at it simplistically but it's either we can own or we can not own.

7. Assume SCOTUS rules civilian owned firearms can be banned and confiscated. ...

It sounds unlikely but we are living in unusually interesting times.

Do you think all Americans will just turn their guns in like good sheep? For some reason I doubt it. If you think you are seeing bloodshed today imagine how bad it might get when the man starts showing up at people’s home to take away their guns.

11. The first federal gun control law

The first piece of national gun control legislation was passed on June 26, 1934. The National Firearms Act (NFA) — part of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s “New Deal for Crime“— was meant to curtail “gangland crimes of that era such as the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.“
The NFA imposed a tax on the manufacturing, selling, and transporting of firearms listed in the law, among them short-barrel shotguns and rifles, machine guns, firearm mufflers and silencers. Due to constitutional flaws, the NFA was modified several times. The $200 tax, which was high for the era, was put in place to curtail the transfer of these weapons.
In 1938 Congress passed The Federal Firearms Act (FFA) which required gun manufacturers, importers, and dealers to obtain a federal firearms license. It also defined a group of people, including convicted felons, who could not purchase guns, and mandated that gun sellers keep customer records. The FFA was repealed in 1968 by the Gun Control Act (GCA), though many of its provisions were reenacted by the GCA.

25. Why should we obey any law passed by a party that openly wants to cancel out our votes

With the votes of foreign outsiders? A party that has been investigating our president since before he was elected and that is actively trying to remove him illegally.

I've said it before but our democrat politicians have declared war on Americans and it's very sad how polarized we have become.

39. Yeah, this is the shit sanctuary laws beget

I'm opposed to sanctuary city laws. And I live in California, so you know how much fun that is.

If the federal government doesn't constitutionally control immigration and the border, then I don't know what to tell you. It's a power that cannot be left to the states. What, one state decides to build 100ft wall, and another just lets whoever in? It's an unworkable system. And when states cannot be left in control of an inherently necessary system for national sovereignty, the federal government has control.

This sanctuary city shit. Yeah. Not a fan. "We like brown people!" Could you signal any harder.

Plus, people keep forgetting that illegal immigration from Europe - particularly Eastern Europe - is very much a thing.

There are certain components I'm for. If someone is undocumented, I want them to be able to report a crime to the police without fear of prosecution. Otherwise all kinds of shit will go under the radar. We have to weight the cost vs benefit, and we benefit far more if people can go to law enforcement to report serious crime without fear of getting in trouble.

But I'm real tired of seeing, "Well, we arrested this guy for a serious crime, but oh well, ha ha ha, fuck you, racists!" Then people end up dead and it's all, "How did this happen?!"

No. Fuck that train of thought and all of its works.

49. I honestly don't disagree

We talk about hate crimes or gay bashing, and my thought is, "Carry the means to defend yourself."

The Pink Pistols are a thing.

If a society is hostile to you, proceed accordingly. And this doesn't just apply to gay people or any other group often targeted for violence. If you live in a bad, high crime neighborhood? Defend yourself accordingly. We have a right, in the Constitution, to be secure in our persons. Depending on the government for that is folly. They're clean up after shit has gone down. It's not like a cop is hanging out alongside you at all times.

I lived in England. And this wasn't recent. I lived there 2001-2004. People, white yobs, would break into homes - while the family was home! - and steal TVs and what have you. They had no means of defense. And if you did defend a little "too hard," you could be prosecuted, too.

Fuck that. I don't want that society.

That said. I have problems with Stand Your Ground. But that's another argument for another day.
