3. THIS Dave has lived in only one state - CA

(yup - my name really is Dave) -

From Jan 1979 to Feb 1980 I lived in and around San Diego - including Mission Valley, Bonita, and Chula Vista. However, I have visited/traveled most of the mainland states - criss-crossed the interior and traveled/toured both coasts.

in Canada, I was born, and continue to live in the Province of Ontario, in my younger years in and around Toronto, and since the 70's mostly Northern Ontario. I did travel numerous times to the East Coast with my family in my youth - sometimes state-side.

I figure my old ass is pretty much parked in the North until I die . . .

I've still got my California memories tho . . .

15. Not too varied

1. Illinois
2. Florida (briefly, never again, shan't speak of it)
3. Illinois
4. L.A. briefly
5. England for a number of years.
6. Illinois
7. S.F. for the past ten years.

Prefer S.F. Climate suits, diverse people, incredibly pretty geography, an ocean!, decent food, lots of culture, compact enough to use public transit or just Uber about.

Just wish it wasn't expensive. I'm living in a decent apartment. Meanwhile, friends back in Illinois who make less than me, "Allow me to take you on a tour of my four bedroom home . . ."

Fuckers.

16. How are the piles of human feces?

Do they really have an app that tells you where they are?

18. You start to barely notice the syringes after awhile . . .

Actually, it was pretty funny. Was downtown the other evening. Partner, friends, and I did one of those escape rooms (so much fun!) and dinner. When we walked outside around 9:30p, I suddenly went, "Wait a minute. It smells like flowers outside!" Because if you've ever been on certain parts of Market St. (or, say, downtown Berkeley), all you smell is piss half the time.

It's honestly a shame, because the city is just gorgeous. But, yeah. It has a problem.

The app you're thinking of is called SnapCrap, lol. And yes, it does exist.

I'm mostly joking about the syringes. You only see them if you're going to work at, like, 5AM or so, before the municipal cleaning crews sweep on through.

19. It's a choice

I've made it. No regrets. But, yeah, doing the software engineering thing to make more money. Partner is an actor. And while he gets paid surprisingly well for it - he's an actual working actor who gets actual parts in actual theaters - my friends in tech just make obnoxiously more.
