Doomsday Robbie running on wrong sort of message

Beto O’Rourke is a deluded loser running on a ticket of lies, hypocrisy and the vote-destroying message that all Americans are about to die

Beto O’Rourke is a loser. In 2016, he ran against Ted Cruz in the Texas Senate race, and lost. He didn’t lose by much, just 2.6% of the vote in fact. But he still lost, and in the brutal world of US politics that usually means the last anyone hears from you for the rest of your natural life. (One of the few exceptions to this rule is Hillary Clinton, who was a double loser – first to Barack Obama in the Democrat nominee race in 2008, then to Donald Trump in the 2016 general election.)

But today, Beto O’Rourke announced he is running for President.

And he did so in rather unconventional fashion – by announcing the end of the world is fast upon us...…

This is a good example for why I don't, personally, really believe that most of those running for the Demo nomination for president are really serious. Probably only the dirty old man, the hoary old crank, and Hilda are honestly pursuing the nomination, sincerely intending to run for the office.

It's that Hilda, and before her, Barry, showed us how lucrative running for president is; hundreds of millions of bucks, and one doesn't even have to win in the end to collect it. All one has to do is run, and the cash floods in.

Doomsday Robbie, like all the others, is running simply to cash in.

2. you have put your finger on a great truth

the rampart sr quote would be "no one would spend a billion bucks to land a $400k gig."

some have small plans - to sell a book or to be in position for a cabinet appointment or a gig at fox news.
some have bigger plans - grabbing large plots of prime real estate or building luxury hotels
i could list a few more but you have an imagination

the trouble is that we have devised a process that requires nearly 2 years of fundraising and deal making that is virtually guaranteed to eliminate anyone who might actually have the skills to manage a government (eisenhower may be the last of those) or the big ideas that inspire a nation (jfk was the last of those) so we are left with candidates who are narcissists, salesmen, profiteers and grifters of various flavors and their front men. i say that in the most bipartisan way.
