So 12 repubs agree w/democrats about drugs/guns/slaves/illegals/etc flowing thru the open borders...

Senate rejects Trump border emergency as Republicans defect

WASHINGTON — The Republican-run Senate rejected President Donald Trump's declaration of a national emergency at the southwest border on Thursday, setting up a veto fight and dealing him a conspicuous rebuke as he tested how boldly he could ignore Congress in pursuit of his highest-profile goal.

The Senate voted 59-41 to cancel Trump's February proclamation of a border emergency, which he invoked to spend $3.6 billion more for border barriers than Congress had approved. Twelve Republicans joined Democrats in defying Trump in a showdown many GOP senators had hoped to avoid because he commands die-hard loyalty from millions of conservative voters who could punish defecting lawmakers in next year's elections.

With the Democratic-controlled House's approval of the same resolution last month, Senate passage sends it to Trump. He has shown no reluctance to casting his first veto to advance his campaign exhortation to "Build the Wall," and it seems certain Congress will lack the two-thirds majorities that would be needed to override him.

"I'll do a veto. It's not going to be overturned," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. "It's a border security vote."

10. Try again? I hate when people are so entrenched

that every topic means you have to come down on one side or the other. The truth is Trump is blowing it. Those who says this is all some grand plan he has are full of shit. He did the right thing by shutting down the government then screwed the pooch by reopening it and getting nothing in return. If his supporters don’t hold him accountable why should he follow through?

12. Im sorry the buck stops with the POTUS.

He’s the one who reopened the government not Ryan. What’s happening today is highly predictable and not holding trump accountable doesn’t give him a stiffer spine. I’m not saying abandon him but criticizing him where it’s warranted will make him a better POTUS.

5. The President is in the right and so are Senators like Rand Paul

However, Democrats are willing to import people to take advantage them while hurting Americans and they've shown since 2016 that they will break the law to maintain control. It's an act of war on the American people and President Trump is obligated to protect Americans from this fraud and rampant abuse.

7. Yes, and they will all be voted right back in next election cycle.

Why people continue voting for corrupt career politicians is beyond me.
Party over country, I guess.

8. Two things

First some of them like Paul legitimately would be against this just from an sake of inappropriate use of power argument. There's only a 2 or 3 of them and none of them are Democrats. Most of Congress is very much ok with this power grant so long as their guy/girl is in charge. A lot of Republicans btw don't view Trump as their guy.

Second, this unintentionally by anyone involved I am sure, actually works to Trump's advantage as it gives him an on record vote to point to that Congress is being obstructionist.
