Bernie or Bust Voters Create Predicament for Democrats in 2020

(Bloomberg) -- The fierce loyalty Bernie Sanders inspires in his supporters is creating a dilemma for the Democratic Party.

For a sliver of Sanders’ base, it’s Bernie or bust. They may detest President Donald Trump, but they didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton and they’re not sure they’ll back the Democratic nominee in 2020 if Sanders isn’t on the ballot. They’re willing do whatever it takes to push the party to adopt his ideas.

“Sometimes things have to get ugly before they get better,” said Melissa Mallaber, a 46-year-old social worker who attended Sanders’ rally in Pittsburgh on Sunday. “There’s such a thing as necessary evils in life to restore the balance.”

Mallaber said she cast a write-in vote for Sanders in 2016 rather than go along with a Democratic establishment choice who wouldn’t take bold action on issues like health care and climate change. “People had to wake up,” she said. “If we had another Clinton in office what would have changed?”

Small Margins

Such disaffected voters who are hostile to the Democratic establishment appear to be only a narrow slice of the Vermont senator’s base. But elections are often won on the smallest margins. In 2016, a portion of them backed Green Party candidate Jill Stein in the general election. While Stein barely got one percent of the vote overall, that amounted to 132,000 ballots across Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, three pivotal states Trump won by a collective margin of about 77,000 votes. Sanders rallied in all three states last weekend.

1. Hillary just had to rig the Democratic primaries in 2016. ..

She would have likely beat Bernie but she had to make sure she did.

Consequently it cost her the presidential election as Bernie voters felt screwed and refused to show up the polls to vote for her. Now Hillary’s cheating in 2016 could hurt the Democratic Party's chances to beat Trump in 2020.

Talk about bad Karma!

7. If only we actually had

Free market capitalism. It’s all about tax abatements and subsidies. Just look at amazon. They get a tax credit. Nah everything is fine, nothing to see here, move along!

11. True so its too bad we wont ever have

“free market capitalism” in the u.s. otherwise socialism wouldn’t be getting the traction it is. It’s only a matter of time before it happens anyways....socialism.

6. Heres my prediction

The dems screw the people and Bernie again. Trump is re-elected. It wasn’t that I didn’t vote for cankles, I voted for trump. I wanted to vote for stein, but was so pissed at bernie and the dems, I said hell with them both. Let’s not forget, Jill stein offered to let bernie run on her ticket, AS THE PRESIDENT, she would step down and be vice. He said no. Fuck him and the democrats too.
