Democrats blast return of 'no-match' letters

House Democrats are protesting a directive from the Social Security Administration (SSA) to resume the practice of sending so-called no-match letters that alert employers to irregularities with their employees' Social Security numbers (SSN).

The Trump administration recently reinstated the letters, which were terminated under President George W. Bush in 2007. Under the practice, the SSA notifies employers of irregularities with their SSNs or registration names of workers they employ.

The no-match letters, Democrats argue, are being instituted as part of the Trump administration's crackdown on immigration as a measure of outing to employers undocumented immigrants working with false or stolen SSNs.

The agency has defended the practice of using the letters in the past, telling NPR in late March that it was focused on improving the accuracy of its record.

"If we cannot match the name and SSN reported on a W-2 to our records, we cannot credit earnings to a worker's record," spokesman Mark Hinkle said in a statement at the time. "When earnings are missing, the worker may not qualify for Social Security benefits he or she is due or the benefit amount may be incorrect."

2. Why are Democrats against accurate record-keeping?

They're always bitching that the social security reserve is getting depleted, and one reason it's getting depleted is probably that many are getting checks they shouldn't be getting.

Which of course means there's less left over for people who should get them.

3. They want to blame employers but refuse to notify them.

How telling.

if we are going to use social security numbers as identification, all care must be taken to insure that they are unique and accurate.

perhaps, and i don't know, there are more efficient and reliable methods of determining and resolving these corellation problems than by sending letters to employers ? maybe the employers of illegal labor really dom't care enough to act on the letter?

my opinion is that the perpetrator of the "illegal immigration" crime is the employer. is there any other crime that results in a letter rather than investigation?

5. a Big Fine per Illegal would motivate the employer

Just as a National Voter ID Card would stop fraud

6. Your opinion is wrong.

The perpetrator of illegal immigration (no quotes required) is the person who illegally enters the country. Persons who knowingly employ illegals are aiding and abetting them once the crime of illegally entering the country has been committed.

7. Part of the democrats' plan to destroy social security

Ignoring mismatches on W-2s to prevent the records from being accurate, thereby weakening the system.
