Justice Department to Provide Mueller Evidence to Congress: Nadler

By Andy Sullivan, Makini Brice

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department has agreed to provide evidence gathered during Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation to lawmakers who are considering whether to launch impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, a top Democrat said on Monday.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler said he will hold off on a threat to bring criminal contempt charges against Attorney General William Barr, as long as the Justice Department continues to provide materials sought by his committee.

The agreement marks a rare moment of compromise between the Trump administration and congressional Democrats, who have been seeking materials from Mueller’s two-year investigation, which examined Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and whether Trump tried to undermine the probe.

Nadler’s committee has issued subpoenas for an unredacted version of Mueller’s 448-page report, released in April, as well as underlying evidence gathered during the process.

2. Sounds like the Dems do not trust Muellers judgement.

That should make things tricky when they try to rely on his opinions.

6. Sounds like the Dems want even more of Muellers judgements

That they didn’t get to see in the initial release. This should make for more of a complete picture of his findings and more precise questioning when they subpoena him to testify live on national television.

10. I predict they eventually get him to testify, that he doesn't come out with "additional judgments"

that weren't in his original findings, and that the dems respond by simply restarting the cycle. It's likely they'll ask for information they know they probably can't get, like stuff covered by executive privilege or maybe grand jury testimony, and then claim that they are being stonewalled.

5. This is a much smarter way for Trump to play this

He needs to get out of the way, and let the DC insiders handle this. Just like every administration never say no, but never deliver the documents. Holder was held in contempt after 14 months for failing to provide the documents on "fast and furious". Holder never said no, he could never locate the previous documents.

In this case Trump's honesty is a problem, he should have never said no, he should of said of course and how much he respects Congress, etc,etc and then turn the request over to the professional bureaucrats.

9. What the Democrats now know for certain

Is that Attorney General Barr really, really, really, really, really, really doesn’t want to be held in criminal Contempt of Congress like his predecessor Eric Holder was.
Barr folded like a cheap suit with his criminal contempt vote scheduled for tomorrow. From Fox News:
“Nadler puts Barr contempt push on hold after striking Mueller report deal” https://www.foxnews.com/politics/nadler-puts-barr-contempt-push-on-hold-after-striking-mueller-report-deal-with-doj
