Brutal New Poll Shows 3 in 10 Republicans Support Trump Impeachment Push

A 58 percent majority of Americans say House Democrats were right to begin an impeachment inquiry of President Trump, and a 49 percent plurality say the House should vote to remove him from office, according to a Washington Post-Schar School poll released Tuesday morning. Support for impeachment has jumped significantly across the board since the White House released a transcript of Trump's July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in late September.

There is a clear partisan split in the results, but 28 percent of Republicans said they support the House impeachment investigation — a 21-point jump from a Washington Post/ABC News poll in July — and 18 percent of Republicans want the House to "vote to remove Trump from office." Meanwhile, 86 percent of Democrats and 57 percent of independents support the impeachment investigation; 78 percent of Democrats and 49 percent of independents want the House to vote to evict Trump from the White House. There's also a generation gap — 40 percent of Republicans age 18-39 back the impeachment investigation versus 23 percent of those 40-64 and 13 percent of Republicans 65 and older.

The Post and George Mason University's Schar School of Policy and Government conducted the poll by phone Oct. 1-6 among 1,007 U.S. adults, and the margin or sampling error for the entire survey is ±3.5 percentage points. The results were nearly identical for U.S. adults and registered voters. On FiveThirtyEight's aggregate of impeachment polling, which did not include this new poll, 46.5 percent support the impeachment inquiry and 44.7 percent do not. Peter Weber

14. Ever. And the more they learn, the less will.

Schiff and crew have really screwed the pooch on this one. It reminds me of the movie "The gang that couldn't shoot straight."

8. Not amongst those who actually read it...especially in comparison to what VP Biden said on video.

"Support for impeachment has jumped significantly across the board since the White House released a transcript of Trump's July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in late September."

9. Ok - there is a lot of bullshit here, and the poll is not being reported accurately.

Note: I am not saying that you are the source of the bullshit - you have just posted what the article said.

Here is the actual polling data:
https://games-cdn.washingtonpost.com/notes/prod/default/documents/5af81dd2-a25a-42d7-9df0-f836bce94a99/note/20ffff0d-305c-4b12-b63d-c8984f4a98e3.pdf#page=1

Claim #1:
"A 58 percent majority of Americans say House Democrats were right to begin an impeachment inquiry of President Trump"
This is pretty close to true according to the polling data. The only difference is that the question (#3) was asked about "Congress" beginning the impeachment inquiry, not "Democrats". But that is minor.

Claim #2:
"a 49 percent plurality say the House should vote to remove him from office"

The actual question was:
"3a. (AMONG THOSE WHO THINK IMPEACHMENT SHOULD HAVE BEGUN) Do you think the House of
Representatives should or should not vote to remove Trump from office?"

The House does not vote to remove from office. This question is poorly worded. Are they asking, "should the House vote to impeach?" or "should the Senate vote to remove?". Those are what can happen.

A nonsense question isn't going to yield meaningful results.

Claim #3:
"28 percent of Republicans said they support the House impeachment investigation"

There is no evidence to support this in the poll data. There is no tracking of what answers were given by Republicans and what answers were given by Democrats. At least not in the published poll results.

So this claim is totally made up.

So we have one issues with a minor wording problem, one issue with a nonsense question, and one completely fabricated result.

10. I support a full impeachment inquiry where both sides are involved.

Call a vote and let's get on with it. Let's get the truth out there, then move on to Trump's second term..

11. A new day and many new lies from the left. situation just normal for the liars on the left.

What I know from "red land" is that the folks here hate the left more now than they ever have before. I'm talking about lock and load type of hate.

They won't start anything but they are not in a mood to be pushed around or have to listen to more lies.

To the right wing folks, the left is nothing more than pathetic liars. They have cried Wolf so many times that the folks here are rooting for the wolf to tear them limb from limb.

18. Use your imagination if you fail at experience.

It could be considered to be very similar to the stand your ground laws.

I've heard a faint rumor about a week long red area strike not producing or shipping goods fuel, water, power, ect to the blue areas.

Mind you it is just a rumor I overheard from a total stranger.

I guess we could have every conservative we know ask every other conservative they know if they too have heard this rumor.

21. What do stand your ground laws have to do with hate?

What does defending one's self have to do with hate?

(Because she doesn't want to lose The House in 2020.)

17. Some republicans right here support it.

When the Dems can’t come up with specific charges and can’t make their case, they believe this will benefit Trump.

19. I am a Trump supporter and I would love to see Trump impeached. ...

Americans will be watching the proceedings in the Senate and wondering why the House impeached Trump and put the nation through this mess. They will realize that all the Democratic Party is interested in is impeaching Trump and are willing to invent crimes in order to do so. Consequently a large number they will vote against any and all Democrats because they are basically as useless as tits on a boar hog.
