aspects of their culture certainly needed to change, but imposing a consumer culture of planned obsolescence hasn't been optimal.

4. Japan sought to expand its empire out of fear of resource scarcity.

But its cultural chauvinism lead it to some truly horrendous excesses in that pursuit.

Well, we beat (nuked?) that out of them and capitalism took over after that to provide for the resources.

.....was the Empire of Japan attacking the US at Pearl Harbor without a declaration of war. The leaders of Japan put their cultural institutions at risk.
